Hey everyone. My boyfriend and I have two new kittens we think the first is a Siamese mix (Prince) and the second may be a Havana brown (Elton)?

The vet asked me today if he has and Abyssinian heritage because apparently they're popular in NYC and he exhibits certain similar traits.

We came home and did some research into solid brown cats, petite, and with huge ears, but we are stumped! He has huge yellowish eyes but they're a bit gummed up just now.

Any ideas? This is our Elton:

He was a rescue from the ACC so we know nothing about him except that he's got flu and is malnourished. Poor baby. He's only three months.

This is Prince (4 months):

Intrigued to know what you guys think!

What cuties!! [emoji]128571[/emoji][emoji]128571[/emoji]

Well technically they are both domestic short hairs (since, like 99% of cats, they aren't pedigreed and none of their heritage can be proven).

Is Elton really brown in color. The pictures are showing up on my screen but he looks black. It may just be the lighting. Solid brown cats are not very common though!

now, prince's coat color/pattern would be classified as Seal lynx point (seal being the color, point being the pattern, and he is a lynx point because of the faint tabby stripes that are on his legs and face).

Cats with the pointed pattern are often thought to be "part siamese" but the reality is that any two cats who carry the point gene (which is recessive) can have a kitten that has the point pattern (meaning 2 random cats of any color could create a kitten with the point pattern as long as they carry the point gene). And, while the point pattern did in fact come from Siam, this pattern has been bred into the general population of cats for over a century, so a pointed cat's true siamese ancestor could be from 100+ generations ago.

Some fun facts about the point pattern:

All pointed cats have blue eyes.

The point pattern is actually a modified form of albinism in cats.

The point pattern is temperature-dependent, and all pointed kittens are born completely white, then later develop the dark patches on the "cold spots" on their bodies (face, paws, ears and tail), while the warmer parts of their body stay white or cream colored.

Aww thank you :D

Very interesting to know about the markings! Prince is very handsome, noisy, and boisterous. Not the most elegant and a bit of a brat, but he always ends up getting exactly what he wants from us!

Elton cries a lot at the moment. He's just a little sad face with ears and tiny spindle legs. We've nicknamed them toebiter and batcat respectively!

Elton is brown, but it's a very dark brown. Sort of like how human hair is black-brown or blue-black... Well he is the former. Interesting to know that that is unusual, I suppose he's a black cat with a brown hue.

Can't wait for elton to get well enough (fingers crossed that he does) for them to be able to play together.

Thanks again for the info!

Prince looks just like a cat I had when I was in high school - also named Prince, coincidentally enough.  I took him with me to get my Senior pictures taken.  A couple days later, he ran out when I was leaving for school and I couldn't find him.  A couple weeks later, I saw him sitting in a neighbor's window and the fancy new collar I'd bought him for the pictures was in the ditch.  The guy denied everything and said he'd had Prince for 2 years.  I know my cat.  And it wasn't just a coincidence that the collar was in his ditch.  I called the cops, but they said my pictures weren't proof enough because a lot of cats look similar.

Hello!

I have a very unusual looking kitten. He's a very dark brown. I guess he'll end up black. Hard to say. In photos he's black, but in life everyone remarks on how rich brown his coat is. Like 80% milk chocolate, lol!

He's small and he has a very prominent lower lip and huge eyes.

I've had many cats before, but nothing quite like this gorgeous kitten.

I want to mention (very proud mama) he's a smart little cookie and he can jump like nothing I've ever seen. He gives my Siamese baby a serious run for his kibble.

What a cute little boy! [emoji]10084[/emoji]️

Reminds me of my boy January when he was young and look at those ears. Same big ears as January!
How old is he and what's his name? Show us more of his photos.

Oh ya, thanks. January's a rescue.

Ah, that's a nice brown. Lovely cat! [emoji]10084[/emoji]️
Yes, he is a lanky cat. It's again same as January. My boy is a lanky cat too and so say the vet too :high5:

BTW, it's not good to use camera flash on your kitty, especially up close. Their eyes are super sensitive to light and camera flashes are way too strong for their sensitive eyes ;)

Is your boy still lanky with big ears, or has he grown into his posture, and is more proportional now?

Oh gosh... Good to know.

Eltons a rescue too. Hence thin coat, and generally thin little boy. We're giving him good food and plenty of love. He was on death row [emoji]128532[/emoji]

He is such a love bug. I just wandered what you guys on the forum thing about his lineage. I think he'll grow into those ears, but I absolutely adore them, he looks like he could fly.

I think he looks quite oriental. I'm not sure. Very intrigued. I've had all sorts, but never seen a can quite like our eccentric little Elton. He's on antibiotics for a nasty URI, he's just been with us a few days and was prev in a cage at the ACC in New York. He's a real darling

With these looks I would think he should be an Oriental (pet quality, as the face isnt of the standard type), or at least, have a near ancestor.

The body as such he could also get from a modern siamese, whom are more common.  Or even a cornish rex, but being solid colored in a rather unusual nuance hints strongly an Oriental ancestry of these three...

He's a baby, I hope we fills out but the vet said he's probably always going to be slim and spindly. He's quite elegant though. Quite the athlete. He reminds me of the Burmese I had years ago, although his body type couldn't be further from.

Yes he is. He's 8 months old now and was neutered when he was 6 months old.
When he stand on fours, he is still pretty tall and also long especially when he does a full stretch lying down. But he does look like he's falling slowly into more proportional now. Or should he?

Whose to say what proportion is... Well, aside from kitty showbiz. Sounds so beautiful. Will you post pics?
