Samwise at the show

In the unlikely event that I figured out how to post a photo, which in turn appears to depend on whether I was able figure out how to shrink it down to an acceptable size,

Meet Samwise Gamgee, our new Turkish Van. He needs to attend a couple more shows before he comes to join us and Miss Kitty on the beach, and we can hardly wait. We are very proud of him. Yesterday he won several awards at the CFA show in Beaumont, Texas, including Best Champion, All Breeds. Well done, Samwise!!

Jim, Ann, Miss Kitty and, soon, Samwise, on a Texas beach

Jim forgot something when he posted my photo this morning.

Those of you who are not familiar with the Turkish Van breed and are interested in learning more about us might find this link to be interesting. You will learn why we are called "The Swimming Cat."

The photo of a Turkish Van on this web site is much better than the photo of me that Jim posted. He is a lousy photographer!

All the best from the beach,

Samwise

Thank you so much for the update, Samwise! It was very interesting reading about your breed and its history, and, indeed, there are some very pretty cats pictured on that site.

Let me say, though, that it is evident that you are a handsome fellow, despite what you characterize as "lousy" photography on the part of your human. Have patience with him. He is, after all, only human, and needs practice. This is where you come in -- you can help him get that practice, by being available at every opportunity to have your gorgeous face and form immortalized on film (or in pixels). They call it "being a ham". We know it's simply being available for the appreciation that is our due.

We'll look forward to lots more pictures, Samwise, when you get to your new home and family.

Suzy

PS. I was so busy encouraging you to help your human develop his photographic skills that I forgot to congratulate you on your accomplishments. Fine work! S

Thank you so very much, Suzy. I'll bet you are a real pretty girl kitty, too. It is too bad you live way up in the far North, since I would sure like to meet you. Have no fear, I will have to visit the vet before I go to my new home on the beach. My humans lived in Alaska for a long time, and they are familiar with your home. They say it is beautiful up there.

How about sending me a photo? My rather senile human finally figured out how to use IrfanView last night at about 2:00 a.m. and I can now send you a larger photo of me, which I have attached.

Best regards to you and your human, from a rainy Texas beach this morning,

Samwise

Oh, Samwise, I was right! You truly are handsome.

You can see pictures of me and my sisters in this thread...

Cindy, Fawn and Suzy

...and I'll let my Mum leave her sig on this time, so you can see us there, too.

I don't let Mum take too many pictures of me, but that's OK, 'cuz Fawn gives her lots of practice. SHE's the ham in our family!

We like living here, and so does our Mum. She likes beaches. I asked her what the beaches are like in Texas, and she couldn't tell me. Can you tell me?

Well, Samwise, my Mum says I gotta go now. I hope you'll talk to me again sometime.

Suzy,

The beaches here are very nice; white and sandy. Miss Kitty and my new humans live on the beach just a ferry ride away from Galveston, Texas. I will get to ride the ferry on my way to my new humans' home on the beach. Right now I live in my cattery in San Antonio, Texas, and cannot go to the beach until I finish being a show cat. (That is really tiresome sometimes.)

This is a lovely area, with fine sandy beaches. There are no pretty mountains like you have at your home, but I will enjoy it there. The weather is fine almost year around. Hurricanes sometimes come through, but I am brave. I will be living in a silly house which is up on pilings, so I should be safe. It is really out in the boondocks, but the lifestyle is laid back kitty-cat style.

Jim really is a lousy photographer, and he does not have any pretty photos of our beach, but he did get a nice one of a seagull at the ferry landing. Miss Kitty loves to dream of chasing the seagulls, and she says that I will too. So I asked Ann to attach the seagull photo.

You REALLY ARE a lovely kitty, as are your housemates. Thank you so much for sending them to me. I will send you more someday when Jim finds someone to take the photos and figures out how to manage them on his computer.

Please give Fran our very best, from Miss Kitty, Ann, Jim and me.

My sister and I rode on a ferry when we came to live here, too!

My Mum says when you're a show cat you have to let strange humans hold you and handle you. Is that true?? I wouldn't like that at all. I don't even like my own humans to hold me for long!

OOOOOO, that's a lovely bird. My Mum says that kind of bird lives at our beaches, too, but they don't come near our house. I caught a chickadee once. Our beach doesn't have white sand, but Mum says it's nice for walking anyway

It's nice talking to you, Samwise. Please say hello to your humans, and Miss Kitty from me and my sisters, and my Mum.
