I have a new friend and everything is going well so far. He is a 1.5 year old grey/white tabby that came from the humane society (HS).

My question is in regards to vac/testing I need to have done.

He is neutered.

Upon arrival to the HS on 7/8 he was found to have a roundworm. The HS gave "Pyrantel" on 7/12 and 7/26 . His fecal was tested again 7/15. 7/18 and 8/1 and the results were negative.

1. Can I assume he is OK there and do I need to keep testing the fecal or do anything further in regards to this?

The HS vet also gave his RCPC Booster and Rabies vac. He was also tested for FeLV/FIV and that was negative. Upon adoption he was deemed healthy and ready to go home!

2. Is that everything that is given at a first time vet visit? Can I now just wait to take him to my vet next year as standard?

and finally, he was also given "sentry feline" by the HS for flea and the HS denotes that is good for a month. I am not sure if he had fleas or if it was given as prevention. He will be an indoor cat and there are no other pets in the home.

3. Do I need to continue with flea medication?

I sure would appreciate any guidance. Thank you.

1.  Nothing more to do about round worms.  They are gone.  If he doesn't go out, he won't be catching any more roundworms, and the pyrantel would also kill any hookworm or whipworm if he had those.  I don't know if you have those where you live, but none of themshowed up on the test so he should be worm free.

It is possible that he might have a tapeworm growing inside him.  Those are gross but relatively harmless.  They get them by eating a flea that has a tapeworm egg inside it.  It takes awhile to grow and the only way we know a cat has tapeworms is when little white things the size of rice grains start appearing in their stool and/or you see one wiggling out of his bum.  In that case, there is a single pill of praziquantel the vet can give him that will get rid of the tapeworm.

2.  As long as he's an indoor cat and you don't let friends bring dogs in to visit, you should not have to do anything else about fleas.

He's negative for Feline Aids and Feline Leukemia virus, so you have no reason to visit the vet again for a year unless he gets ill.  Now you should find a good diet for him and keep him healthy.
