Sigh. So, my boy isn't quite recovered yet and we're going on a month.  I had reduced his prednisone thinking he was having behavioral issues and hiding under the bed from that.

The vet thinks it's because he's in pain. He's NEVER hidden from me when in pain, so I am confused. Is he afraid? Is this pain bothering him so he's in pain AND scared? I talked to the vet about putting him on kitty prozac to help with fear, but I don't know. I mean, he hunches down when he's out from under the bed, like someone is going to attack him and I'm not sure if it's because he's been to the vet so many times this month he's sick of being poked and prodded. He's almost 17 so I can understand his attitude if he's tired with this.

He still eats, drinks and loves his chicken. If I lay on the floor at the end of my bed, he will purr if I brush him and rub behind his ears and roll onto his back--does that sound like a cat in pain??

I'm honestly baffled. He's on bupernorphine when needed and we are upping his prednisone to 2x daily for 5 days to help with inflammation.

He's been hiding for a week and I keep thinking it's because he was tender from the needles from the b-12 and sub q fluids and now he's just in a pancreatic flare so that's adding to the rest.

UGH!

UPDATE!!

Bandit looked worse last night so I got him to the vet just before closing. He'd thrown up after a spell after a megacolon 'clear out' as I call it. But, I was worried about him getting dehydrated so the vet gave him an antibiotic shot and anti nauseant. Well, guess what? Bandit slept on my bed for the first time after a WEEK, after we got home!!! He started feeling lousy after his nighttime prednisone and ciscipride, so I gave him buperenorphine at 12:30am. That helped him settle and as I was writing in bed in my journal, around 1:30am, he sprang off the bed.....and went in pursuit of the mouse in my apartment! HAHAHA. He stayed on mouse patrol ALL night!!! (I live in a renovated century home) He's been coming for snuggles/cuddles and slept with me a bit, and then returns to his mouse patrol. He's sleeping right now under the bed as mouse patrol is tiring work.

They gave me my boy back!!! I'm SOO happy!

Hmmm, don't know why the antibiotic and anti-emetic would have helped him out this way, but whatever did, I'm happy for both of you!!  (Doesn't sound like he was nauseated since he's been eating, but what do I know)

Let's just he stays the course this time

His blood work Monday showed he still had pancreatitis---but the vet I saw Monday called me Weds and said they couldn't say how his pain tolerance was. Bandit is a tough kitty and I think it was just getting to him and likely he got a secondary infection? Hard to say. He's still very tired, but I'm thinking dealing with being in pain and fatigue from all that has made him tired. He's a bit more restless now as I think he's feeling better, but still walking very gingerly. He's on prednisone 2x daily, his normal dose of ciscipride for megacolon and buperenorphine for pain every 8 hrs as needed---gave him some tonight at around 8pm and he's eating and thinking about drinking (he's never liked drinking water). He has very moist/wet food so he's getting fluids that way. But, he's far more cuddly and snuggly and less fearful of me, so I wonder if he had some underlying infection that was making him feel odd and maybe the antibiotics helped? My vet said the anti nauseant works quick (not cerenia ..can't remember the name of what they gave him).

But yes, he was eating the whole time up until last night when he threw up and I knew it was time to get to the vet.

He's sleeping now and we had some nice cuddle time :)
