He was here this morning and demolished his breakfast... but now I can't find him ANYWHERE!! I have literally torn the house up looking for him. There is not a corner in this tiny duplex that I haven't scoured. There is no furniture of a type that he could hide in (waterbed, so no box spring to crawl in... etc.). I've looked in drawers, cabinets, everything. NO SIGN of him at all. I opened a can of food-- that usually gets him running. It didn't work. He didn't come. I cannot find him AT ALL!

There's a FAINT chance he might have run outside (he's very sneaky like this), but I've called and looked in the places he would normally try to run to in the yard. No sign. He is supposed to be a strictly indoor cat so he is not allowed to go outdoors

He's been missing for 4 hours now. I'm very worried, as it never takes this long to find him when he plays hide-and-seek.

If I don't find him soon, I'll post on social media and put signs out... but I do not know at this moment what more to do besides keep looking and hope he shows up.

God, I hope he's not lost for good...

Sorry to hear he is missing.

Sugar got out twice, and both times never went more than 30 feet from the door.

Walk around with an open can of tuna, maybe dropping a little bit here and there. Keep calling him, walking around outside every 15-20 minutes.

If there are any treats he likes, shake the bag or can outside where he could hear it.

Using signs and social media in a small area would probably be useful, as you said.  Just don't use something that will be seen nationally, or you may get responses from states away.

These are my personal opinions and ideas and in no way are official.

We have a local site (Nextdoor.com) that covers neighborhoods. That was my first idea for social media.

I still haven't found him. Tried the 'favorite food' trick right away-- no luck. I've asked the neighbors to be on guard and gave recent pictures. He does have a microchip, so if he's found and if someone takes him in, I'll be notified... I hope.

I'm still looking, but I am FRANTIC now! I'm bawling like a banshee over this! How could I lose my CAT???

Okay-- all clear. He's been found! Whew... a scary few hours!

That sucker found a new hiding place where I NEVER would have thought any cat could possibly go, because we blocked it off so that cats COULDN'T go in there. That's what I get for thinking, LOL!

Never underestimate the intelligence and cleverness of a Siamese or their ilk.

(Gah, I feel like such a fool
 . And a worry-wort to boot...)

But this tells me that he needs a dosage increase on his pred (only getting a small dose now, 1/2 tab per day) and maybe a bit of buprenex because he only goes hiding like this if he's having a flare up of his stomatitis pain. He's back pretty far where I can't reach him just now without moving heavy furniture and then slithering in there like a snake (no worries on that part, as I'm very skinny but the furniture is HEAVY!), but I know that he will have to come out sometime. As soon as he does, he'll get some pain relief-- and the spot behind the waterbed headboard will be better secured.

Thanks for the vibes, all! Apparently, it worked.

Isn't it amazing the places they can fit in? I was looking for Meezy (Sheba) the other day, and found her in the middle of the room, on a blue carpet, sitting there watching me and listening to me call for her.

I wish you had mentioned the water bed frame in your original post. We have a waterbed frame too. That is the first place I check when I can not find my cats. We have a space on the front of ours that has a door you can take off.  I have to take the door off to find my cats when they hide under there.  My cats get into that space all the time and go under my bed.  I am glad you were able to see him. I would not be surprised if he took a nap and that is why he was ignoring you.  I hope he comes out soon so you can give him he meds.

I didn't think he could POSSIBLY get under there because we had it blocked off just to prevent things like this. So, I discounted it at first. I went over and every blockade seemed intact, so I still didn't think he'd possibly be there. But I looked anyway and there he was. I still have no idea how he managed to get in there without moving anything out of place.

Well, his name is  Schrödinger...

But he has gotten his meds. I also noticed that he's drooling a bit and his stinky breath is back. So, I have a call in for another round of the clindamycin that he gets when this flares up. This isn't the first time this drooling and stink-breath has happened. It's pretty much par for the course. So, I gave him an evening dose of clindamycin from a small bit I had on hand to get him through till the morning when I can pick up his refills. I'll get a couple of rounds this time to have when this happens again, and now I know how he lets me know that he's hurting. He seemed fine even last night and early this morning-- maybe he's been hurting for a bit and was just soldiering on for me, bless his heart. So now I know to check his mouth daily, and watch his behavior. This is a recent diagnosis for him, so we're still learning how the illness is going to play out in him. It's an odd learning curve.

Oh yes! He and Skye do that all the time! Schrodie is the color of our beige carpet, and Skye is the color of the brownish-gray Texas soil in our yard. Skye is a MASTER of camouflage! Our soil sits over a very thick layer of flaky, chunky limestone and the white chunks readily come to the surface, so there is all kinds of white rock on the surface in the yard. In fact, our part of town is named for the "White Rock" that is so prevalent here. But Skye is the color of the topsoil, with small bits of white, like her back toes and a small locket on her throat, and some white shading on her belly. That cat can be laying there snoozing away in the shade and we will totally not see her 5 feet in front of us.
At night? Forget it-- you won't see that cat. We can call her and call her, and 3 seconds later, there's a fuzzy swipe against our legs.

And of course, you know full dadgum well that your cat was NOT there 5 seconds ago in the place where you finally see them silently laughing at you. Because, you know... Schrödinger's cat was real. Amirite?

Of course you are right. Every long-time cat servant knows they can teleport themselves through time and space, also.

Don't beat yourself up over the water bed thing.  This was something I had to learn the hard way myself.  One of my cats pulled the same disappearing act. I looked all over outside and could not find her.  One of my friends also has a multi-cat household and she was the one that mentioned to check the water bed frame.  I too did not think my baby would fit under there either.  We would prefer they don't get under there but have had no luck finding any way to block it off that works.
