My cats limping again

Hi,

My cat came in Friday night limping on his front right leg. I kept an eye on him for a day thinking he'd maybe just pulled a muscle as there were no sign of bite marks or an abscess or swelling. The limping got worse, so I took him to the vet, they managed to find a bite mark but no abscess thankfully, they gave him antibiotics and a painkiller. He picked up almost immediately and has spent the last three days running around as normal.

However he has come in this morning limping again, still no abscess or any other marks or swelling. I still have one days worth of treatment to give him. Does anyone have any ideas as to why he's got worse again. Could it be that the painkiller injection has worn off and the stuff I've been given to give to him isn't as strong and he will just need another lot of treatment and take longer to heal? Or could it be more serious than that?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to TCS :wavey:

Suggest that you call your vet and let them know and proably they can tell you how the medicine works or if you have to bring your kitty in again.
In the meanwhile, try to restrict his movements if you can as not to aggravate the injury.

I would say it is still an abscess. My cats do this when they have one, and it still can burst even when on the antibiotic, though it is better. I would call the vet and inform them of his renewed limping and see what they suggest.  It could be that the antibiotic isn't the right one for that particular bacteria.

Hi,

I've locked the cat flap from inside so he can't get out, much to his disgust, he's more an out doors cat, hence how he ended up in the state he's in. I am having to let my other 2 out manually which is a full time job :)

I shall keep an eye on him for today and use up the last of his antibiotics and painkiller and take him back to the vet tomorrow, as he emptied my bank account with his Sunday vet visit  (vet call out fee was £100+, as they don't work Sundays, then meds on top) and it's pay day tomorrow.

I was just wondering if anyone else's cat has had this or something similar? He's always picking a fight, usually comes out on top, and when he doesn't there's an abscess and swelling, but there's none of that this time, just a puncture wound and a limp.

Ironically his name is Yoda, unfortunately the Force was not strong with him on this occasion.
