Actually he seems to like the soft food better than the formula, I mixed some kmr with the soft food and he licked a good amount off my finger, but then he wouldn't eat from the bottle..at least I got something in him CD

I'll try for another bottle soon, and before the soft food this time so he can actually get some formula lol

Actually, the soft food fills him up more. Since he is of weaning age and he likes it, you can mix it with KMR and serve a portion on a flat plate. See if he will lap up about a tablespoon. Then top him off with the bottle. Always offer the soft food first now! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

If he'll eat this, he'll get plenty of nutrition, and fairly soon he will be weaned. He'll also get plenty of fluids from the wet food, and you can begin serving the KMR in a dish instead of a bottle.

That sounds PURRFECT [emoji]128514[/emoji] lol

We tries to get him to eat from a saucer plate that's very small and shallow and he like doesn't understand, but I'll keep trying! And I figured the formula was better for him, but if they're both equally nutritious I'll keep on giving him as much of both as I can lol

I really appreciate all your help, its taken a lot off stress off knowing other peoples opinions on the subject. I'm really glad to hear I'm doing okay! Lol

I was wondering since he likes the soft food better than the formula,
If I'm supposed to get him to eat about 128mls of formula, what does that count in soft food?

Like I recorded all that he ate yesterday, from 8am yesterday, to 8am this morning, he ate about 80mls of formula, and probably two tablespoons of wet food all together between that time..and the formula is me rounding down or estimating because of what he dribbles and what spills and such..

But I figured since, no, he didn't get the full like 120mls, but he got some soft food, that was enough..

Also, I still am just feeding him, his mom isn't nursing him anymore but I do let her come in and clean him sometimes after he eats so they can still see each other. I pull her a way if he starts to nurse, but mostly he likes to swat at her face and pass when she's cleaning him..

His gums and tongue are still place, but have a little pink, how long will it take for him to get color back in his mouth?

Oh yeah and also.. HE POOPED TODAY!! He went right after I fed him some soft food mixed with formula at around noonish.. But the thing is, he hasn't really eaten since then and its now 3:13, so it's been 3 hours since he ate. I went in there like 20 ish minutes ago to try and get him to eat something, he got maybe like 1 or 2 mls of formula, and like three bites of soft food from a spoon...

Idk if he's not eating cause the last feeding he actually ate a good amount and he's just not hungry or what but I really want him to try and eat something...

It sounds like he ate real well yesterday. 80 mLs plus soft food is good. It also sounds like he's eating fine today. He just sounds full. Like I said, soft food is more filling. I also think it's fine if he sees his mom and even nurses from her.

@sarthur

I'm just worried that if I let mama kitty feed him, he won't want anything else :b

And with his eating, I think he's been eating good too but I'm worries because he ate good this morning and really good at around noon, but it's been four house since then and he only took a few licks/bites..he might be full still, but I'm just worried he's not gonna get enough to eat..
I've been trying to feed him from 2:30-4 and only got a few bites..

Okay, it's exactly four o clock here so it's been four hours since his last legit meal (I guess there was a snack in between) and we played a little bit and he just fell asleep ...when should I try and fees him next?

It's ok if he feeds from mom and eats a bit less from you. I would not separate them. He just has to get the food from somewhere. Are you weighing every day?

I wasn't going to separate them at all until mama kitty started trying to move her last kitten up into the highest shelf in the closet, so what I did was put the kitten in a cat carrier to sleep and had the door shut. I'd let him out every like 1-2ish hours to eat and play and stretch and even after I fed him, I'd let mama in the cage with him so he could suckle from her too. and then that way, she couldn't move him to a bad spot.

Well someone on here suggested that I all together stop letting him nurse from her because I was having trouble with him eating from the bottle, and letting him nurse plus trying to feed him with a bottle might confuse him and make him stop the bottle all together.

So its been a whole 24 hours that he hasn't nursed from her, but I'll let her clean him..and when he's in the carrier with the door shut, I'll let mama in the bedroom and close the room door so at least she knows he's there, cause she's been kinda frantic from her other babies passing :/

Also, I do not have a kitchen scale, or I would be weighing him..I also don't have the money for it..we spent all of our money going to the vet, buying formula and kitten stuff and we didn't even have the money for that..

And about feeding him (my last post) should I try and feed him again soon or should I wait? I want him to eat cause he has hardly eaten anything in the past 4-5 hours..
Then again, it's like 90 degrees where I am

It's 5 and I tried to fees him again, still didn't want it...I'm gonna let him sleep, and try again in an hour..if he doesn't eat then, I'm gonna probably have to force him to eat..I'm starting to worry...

See if he will nurse from mom.

I think he has not been hungry. It's okay if he nurses mom. You can still give him soft food and his bottle if he's interested. At his age, he can go 4-6 hours between meals. Ideally he will now nurse mom and eat soft food meals 4-6 times a day. He will show interest in kitten chow soon too. He should eat his meals with his mom. It sounds like he's doing fine!

I just worry cause he was malnourished and anemic and I'm trying to nurse him back to health..
And with mama cat, I try and leave her in with me while I feed him and she coos the whole time so he won't eat from me if she's in the room...
But I'll try and feed him again now, and then I'll have him nurse from mom if he won't eat..
I just want to know he's getting enough food, and I know they can go at least 4 hours without eating but if he's only eating 5mls at a time, he should eat more frequently .. And if I let him eat from mom, I never know how much he's getting from her and I can't leave them alone together. With the way she acts, it doesn't even seem like she likes me anymore....

I'm sorry I'm just so new to this and don't want to do anything wrong..

It takes about 2 weeks for moms to dry up. Has he eaten any soft food or had any milk from his bottle since nursing?
