You should always offer the soft food mixed with KMR first. He ultimately needs to wean to solids, and he's drinking from mom now.

It is normal and healthy for him to nurse mom and to eat wet food. As I've said, wet food is more filling, and the goal is for him to eat wet food on his own at regular meal times. Most kittens will also nurse mom for many weeks, even though they are eating wet food. You can also leave kitten chow down 24/7, and he will learn to eat that too.

I'll do that then..I mean he does get a pretty good amount of soft food though , at least I think..
And I'm not really sure how much he gets from mom, cause if I'm in the room while she's trying to feed him, she gets like uncomfortable and won't feed him like she will let him latch while I'm in there, but she keeps moving..so we lock her in the cat carrier with him and leave the room so 1 she can't move him in a stupid spot and 2 so she has nowhere to run if he tries to latch..

Also, is the soft food healthier for him cause its more filling?

I don't think so? Like he makes a lot of like throat noises when he eats, but he swallows everything fine as far as I know

But Idk I've never noticed him having a hard time while he's eating?

He is over 4 weeks old and should have teeth by now. He is not going to choke on dry kitten chow.

Okay so I got a kitchen scale and weighed him, it says he weighs 12.2 oz, I think 4 weeks kittens are supposed to weigh like 13 oz and at 5 they're supposes to weigh like a pound or something? Either way, he is still underweight, but not TOO bad. I'll keep weighing him everyday around the same time and keep track of his progress..
After in weighed him I fed him some soft food mixed with KMR and he fell asleep eating it out of a spoon lol..
While I was gonna I had mama with him in the carrier, and when I got back little ones neck was soaking wet like it gets when she tries to move him, I really hope she wasn't just aimlessly walking around the carrier with him in her mouth...

Also, he might be over 4 weeks and have teeth, but he's definitely not an average kitten, he's still underweight and isn't the best on his feet and still is like special needs..
I just really worry about him

But I appreciate everyone replying to my questions and giving me feedback and advice. Idk how I would've gotten through this without you guys.

Lol okay :)

I really do appreciate all the help from everyone..thank you all so much

One quick question, so you think 12.2 oz is bad for the kitten to weigh if he turns 5 weeks on Tuesday?

He weighed 12.2 before eating and 12.4 after eating..and then he passed out lol also is that normal? For him to just like fall asleep while eating and have his face like in the spoon?

A applejacksalex

Most kittens weigh about 16 ounces at one month, so he's a little behind. It's great you have a scale now so you can track him. He needs to gain 6-10 grams a day. Keep pushing the wet food. His gums sound okay to me.

Do you think he's too far behind? Is there anything I can do more of? He eats about a tablespoon if soft food whenever I give him some which is like every time or every other time I feed him, plus I push at least a little KMR too, sometimes its mixed with the soft more than other times.. I let him nurse from mom but not TOO much, I feel like her milk isn't as nutritious as it should be? Like Idk maybe I'm over thinking but she just acts so weird with him, and I feel like she doesn't even feed him or like I said her milk isn't that great, he seems more active and healthy when I feed him over her..

And Idk his gums make me nervous cause the vet said he was anemic (most likely from fleas), and I feel like he still is? His gums look really light, but his tongue and roof of his mouth look a little more pink, but not as pink as I feel they should be?

We gave him a dawn bath along with mama kitty, but he still has fleas, not half as bad I don't think but like I'll see one run across him every once and a while but when I actually look in his fur I can't find any fleas or flea eggs..and no the vet literally didn't give me anything for fleas. She even said dawn doesn't do anything. And that there is absolutely nothing we could use on a kitten for fleas..
(Like the only vet near us that we went to SUCKS)my two baby kittens passes away the night we went to the vet...I'm still pisses at the vet for pretty much doing nothing.

I don't think you need to stop the kitten from nursing. He needs as much as he can get. Weighing him daily will tell you how much he needs in addition to nursing. I would give primarily wet food, maybe with kmr mixed in.

One note on mom. She can get pregnant again any time now, even without going into heat. Are you keeping her 100% inside and away from intact males?

I'm letting him nurse, but like I said I have to wither put mama and the kitten in the carrier and close it for her to fees him, or I have to AIT with them in the bedroom for hero feed him cause I just don't trust her with him, she keeps trying to move him. And this last time I sat in there while she fed him and every time he latched she'd like move or lick him away from her, like I really don't know how much he gets from her and I just wish I coils tell..

And yeah she's been away from the male, but not until someone on here said something..like I knew she can get pregnant again like whenever but we are apace limited right now, so she's been locked in our bedroom with her baby, but he's locked in the carrier

Wouldn't it be easier to kitten proof your room so they can have more freedom? She sounds stressed, which is why she's moving the baby. She may also not like where the nest is. He should really have access to mom whenever he wants for nursing...

Do you need help finding a low cost clinic for spaying and neutering?

The room is pretty much kitten proof, and there's like multiple nests for her and the little one, but there's like no kitten proofing the top shelf of the closet, like there's so much stuff up there I ho early don't even know how she keeps getting up there. Like she will knock everything out to make room and then try and take the baby up there. Through the entire time that we had all of the kittens she's constantly moved them and I always made a new nest wherever she moved them so they'd be comfortable, she'd just move them again a few days later. And right before I noticed there was something wrong with the one kitten, she was taking them JP on this table one by one to feed them and I feel like one of them maybe fell off the table. She started off as a great mama, and then like she became so careless. So I really don't feel comfortable just letting them roam free together. Like I really feel like she'd kill him....
