Does anybody know if the Whisker City ceramic dishes are lead free? I just learned today that ceramic can be unsafe depending on the glaze used, so I figured I'd check since I do have a cute little Whisker City ceramic dish. I'd like to believe PetSmart isn't going to sell dishes using a lead glaze, but lord knows. If it's possible that it's going to give him lead poisoning I think I'll change it out.

(Admittedly wasn't entirely certain where this thread should go, but it seems health related as a topic!)

I ogle those cute little bowls and pass for stainless. Unless it says so I'm not convinced and even then...

Don't know but I will say that bowl doesn't look comfortable for a cat to eat from. It's way too deep, their whiskers will surely knock against the side of the bowl. Cats really dislike that.

It would tip very easily too.

I used to buy the cheap coffee cups at the dollar store until I noticed that after a while some of the glaze started to wear off. I have good dishes that have been abused for years with no sigh of wear. When I look at those bowls in the pet stores they remind me very much of those cups. Even if it's lead free you have to ask what kind of quality the glaze and fire is on it

I don't know if you can be sure they are lead free from one batch to the next. Theoretically they shouldn't have lead in it, but then neither should children's toy jewelry and yet it often does have lead. So I would simply assume that all ceramics from China would have the risk for having lead in the glaze.

For water bowls, I use glass bowls.

For meals I use paper plates.

Ah, well I'll switch it out then, I'd rather be safe than sorry. It is cute though, so perhaps I'll use it as a dish for keys or other loose trinkets. Thanks guys.
