I am so nervous I've called two vets in three days and they don't seem to be concerned. My two year old female got out a few months ago (unaltered :'( ) in full blown heat. Now I know she is definitely in the first stage of labor but she's been in for three days. I am worried because she does not want me to leave her side. I've gotten. Her box set up in my room which is quiet and warm. But here is why I worry three days of bloody show lots and lots and lots of sleeping won't let me leave her side which is worse when I have three kids that need me as well. Then this morning I noticed she keeps getting these little tremors but no noticeable contractions. Kittens are still moving. But I worry so much it's her first and only litter and it's my first time being a grandma to fur babies. And i am not receiving any guidance from the vets I've called. Her temp dropped yesterday to 98.8 and has stayed there. What can I do is all this normal? Am I just being a nervous Nelly or is this something that should be taken up with with a vet who seem to just shrug it off like it's nothing? Please help any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

WELCOME to TCS!

It does sound like your cat will be giving birth very soon.  We have a good collection of articles in the Cat Health section which you can access by scrolling up to the brown bar, clicking on Articles, and then choosing the Cat Health section and scrolling through the choices.  To make this super easy for you, I am copying the links regarding birth, delivery and newborns for you here.  After reading this information, let us know if you have any more questions.  And good luck with your approaching new arrivals.

This should give you a little knowledge so you will know what to look for and how to be ready.  If she starts in labor and is actually pushing, you can probably find someone on here still awake and willing to give you any advice, but once you know what to expect, you may be just fine and your ca may do just fine on her own.  Wishing you all the best, and keep us posted on your progress.

She sounds like she's been laboring. The labor sounds normal to me. How are things going? Any kittens yet?

No kittens yet we took her to the vet yesterday and they said everything shes experiencing is normal that her and kittens are fine but if in a few days the kittens aren't here to bring her back in so we can make a choice on what to do from there. Shes been spending more time in her nesting box then the last few days so I'm hoping soon we will have furry beans. I will keep everyone updated. I wanted to thank you guys for helping us in this as we are both quite new to the labouring process.

Thank you for the update - I am sending prayers and vibes for a smooth, tranquil delivery - your children and you must be so excited but anxious! I am so glad that your kitty has you there to care for her...

If her labor does not progress you can ask for a shot of oxytocin to stimulate the contractions, before opting for a c-section. Hopefully, they will come naturally soon.

Can you tell me if it's normal for her rectal temp to bump back up to 102.6? She wants absolutely nothing to do with me now. Completely different from yesterday where I couldn't leave her side. We are taking her back in tomorrow cause there hasn't been any major noticeable change besides her temp and now not wanting me as well as I don't see or feel the kittens moving.

It could have been pre-labor. That tends to come and go at the end, before the real thing. If kittens have dropped you won't see much movement, but a vet check is a good idea.

Thank you yeah we are definitely taking her. I just hope that it's me being a overly worried mommy and that she and the kittens are okay. I will let everyone know what they say tomorrow or if there is any major change tonight. The nearest 24hr vet is nearly 3 hours from here and I fear that it would cause her more stress to go there. Keeping fingers crossed everything is okay

Very sad news we woke up this morning and couldn't find Marley. Well we found here as well as a single still born baby. I have not found anymore and she got up and ate and drank and went back to her spot. We are going to be bringing her in as soon as my mom gets here with the car :(

Vet should do an ultrasound or x-ray. She may have more kittens. Sorry for the stillborn.

Please let us know what you find out.

Please do not beat yourself up over it. These things happen. Stay focused on your kitty.

She may need a shot of oxytocin to get contractions going to deliver the rest. Or she may need a c-section. We'll see what is best to hopefully deliver live kittens.

Hang in there!

So the vet took a look at Marley she only had the one still born kitten. They said to try to keep her in a quite area and let her rest she was a little dehydrated from not drinking for the days she was in labor but other than that she is doing okay all things considered. They have her on a 7 day course of antibiotics. And we will be bringing her in on September 19 to be spayed. Thank you all for all your support and guidance.
