Thanks. hes actually and F6 virtual F4. On paper hes is a F6 but has high serval blood. same as an F4. Hes also an SBT so bred savannah to savannah. The breeder admitted she did not socialize much. So you could be right. They can be quirky for sure. Hes a pretty amazing boy though.

The law is very complicated in in this state. This is the law that Texas counties use since 2001:

House Bill 1362, enacted by the Seventy-seventh Texas Legislature, amended chapter 822 of the Health and Safety Code by adding subchapter E. See Act of Apr. 25, 2001, 77th Leg., R.S., ch. 54, 2001 Tex. Gen. Laws 90. Section 822.103 provides that "[a] person may not own, harbor, or have custody or control of a dangerous wild animal for any purpose unless the person holds a certificate of registration for that animal issued by an animal registration agency." Tex. Health & Safety Code Ann. § 822.103(a) (Vernon Supp. 2002). A dangerous wild animal is defined to include a lion, tiger, cougar, leopard, cheetah, jaguar, bobcat, lynx, serval, caracal, hyena, bear, coyote, jackal, gorilla, baboon, chimpanzee, an orangutan, and an ocelot, or any hybrid therefrom. See id. § 822.101(4).

Texas law regarding ownership of dangerous wild animals can be found at:
http://codes.lp.findlaw.com/txstatutes/HS/10/822/E

The Serval is listed under the dangerous wild animals, and it means Servals and the offspring (Savannah's) are considered wild animals and not allowed to have.
"Animal registration agency" is defined as "the municipal or county animal control office with authority over the area where a dangerous wild animal is kept or a county sheriff in an area that does not have an animal control office.

No Savannahs at all can live as a pet in a home in Texas. They must be caged if they are allowed in a county at all
No Savannahs of any generation can live in a county that bans them and no Savannahs can live in a county that allows them unless they are caged in a way that the laws and the permits allow.

TX County laws; Savannah's allowed with permit:
Aransas:Ronell K. Burke animal control in Bell
Coryell:Class C exhibitor license required
Ector county
Guaclalupe: requires USDA license, Doug Pyatt animal control
Harris county,
Kaufman county,
Lubbock county,
Mason county,
Ward county

COUNTIES which BAN Savannahs and all hybrids:

Bastrop county,
Bell County,
Bexar county,
Blanco county,
Burnet county,
Caldwell county,
Dallas county (I'm done... no Savannahs for me)
Denton county,
El Paso county,
Fort Bend county,
Hays county,
Hidalgo county,
Lampasas county,
Lee county,
Milam county,
Montgomery county,
Tarrant county (Ft. Worth area),
Throckmorton county,
Travis county,
Williamson county.

Yes, you'll see ads for Texas Savannah breeders, but I have no idea if they are legal or in a 'restricted' setting, or what. I just know that Texas considers them as a prohibited or restricted 'wild hybrid', no matter how many generations down you go. I suppose that even an F-100 would be illegal here under this law.

Such loving gentle creatures so that's nuts. Now servals are not so simple I agree but savannahs are wonderful

I agree. If I got one, I'd go with one well-removed from the serval so that it has a good bit of domestic look to it, then claim that it was (sold or given to me as) a Bengal mix, or a spotted tabby, or something other than a Savannah. Or claim that I found the kitty and I have no idea what it is.

In other words... lie like a rug.

What I don't get is that wolf hybrids are NOT banned in this state (but they may be illegal in Dallas County) and pit bulls are legal everywhere here except in the cases of apartment complexes or rental communities that have property bans. Garland, TX does have some rules as to containing pit bulls, but they are not banned. And in Dallas, we had a few recent high-profile cases of people being killed by pit bulls, but there is no talk that I know of regarding a breed ban like there is for Savannah cats.

It's ridiculous.

@2Cats4everLoved  So as an update I feel like there hasn't been much improvement with my cat. I noticed that whenever I pet his body his tail usually thrashes so I'm assuming he doesn't like it? Or he doesn't like it when I do it because he still doesn't trust me. I also noticed that it's been a while since he's gone up to me and rub his face against my finger etc. I noticed it when I randomly met a stray cat who rubbed up against me and it made me think about my cat back home and how he never does it. I find it hard to bond with him because although he plays with some toys he loses interest really quickly and he hates massages. Do you have any more other recommendations as to how to bond with my cat more?

Can you accept him just as he is? The more we wish for things, the less likely they will happen.
I agree with @Primula- This may be the type of cat he is.  Just an independent cat.  Some cats are put off if their human friend pushes themselves on them.  I would suggest, don't try so hard, you need to let the cat come to you.

I honestly need to go back and read the threads on this situation to refresh my memory.

I know we all want our kitties to cuddle, but unfortunately that's not always the case.  And it could be that he's picking up on your frustration with him and that is causing him to be turned off.

Cats are VERY AWARE of their environment and if you are getting annoyed at him, know he notices and may think you don't like him - It goes both ways.

As far as playing, have you tried the valerian root?  Not sure if I mentioned this already.  My boy used to go nuts over it.  I got the capsules with the powder and would sprinkle on the toy and he would go crazy.  Please note it stinks and smells like old socks.

I'll read up and get back to you.

Hang in there.

I fully agree with the other posters.

Like I said, my older cat has never been, never will be a lap cat, a cuddly cat, or an overly-affectionate cat.  I accept that.  I love him dearly, he knows it, I know he loves me, but I respect his space.  I accept him exactly how his personality is and I don't try to change him.

It's like this--some people are "huggers", and some people do not like to be touched (I fall in that category, so I can vouch for how it feels to be forced to be affectionate physically).  Cats are the same way.

Because I don't want to start a separate post. Do you guys think it would be a good idea to get a kitten? It's because although I do love my cat and I know it might seem lame but I originally got him in hopes he would fill in a hole ever since all the people I know graduated college. But because I spend so much effort trying to bond with him only for him to aloof it kind of broke my heart and it has made things worse. So I was wondering if I got a kitten, especially one at a early age in order to bond with it. It would help fill that hole while still keeping my current cat. Because honestly I thought about giving up on him but I can't bear to bring myself to give him up to a shelter so I thought a kitten would be a solution where I can be happy and my cat could remain a part of the family thus giving us more time to bond.

As for if he is compatible for another cat. He's 1 year old and I tried to decide what is personality is but I don't know where to start. He's calm, aloof, not too shy from strangers (like he'll show up but won't pay anyone an

I don't think you should get another cat. There is no guarantee that another cat will have or keep the personality that you are looking for either. Kittens can be cuddly and then change as they get older. It's just a lot to ask, unfortunately, if it's a condition of you being happy with a pet. I think you have to go in with zero expectations.

Can you focus on the relationship that you do have with your cat? In what ways does he act as a companion?

I completely agree with @talkingpeanut    I know you believe that you might get a kitten that would be a more lovey-type cat, but their personalities are as distinct as different people's are, so you definitely have no guarantee.

I would say (in another, different situation) a kitten might help your cat, especially since you two seem to have an already strained relationship and it might provide comfort to your existing cat to have some sort of companionship. But-- as you don't know your existing cat's personality well enough to judge--it could be that introducing a new kitten or cat would only drive a wedge further between the two of you.  Or it could cause you to just ignore the existing poor cat and focus only on the one that is more loving.

I just hate that your relationship is strained with your existing cat.  It cannot be beneficial to the cat at all if you have decided it is not beneficial to you and your needs.  I really feel sorry for the cat.  I hate it for you, but the cat really has no choice in the matter--that's why I say I feel sorry for the cat trapped in a relationship where it is not really wanted, because I know it has to be picking up on that   :(   I'm not saying in any way negative towards you in any way, but just that the cat has to feel it and feel unwanted :(  They may not understand a situation like we humans do, but they do pick up on feelings very well.
