Hi all!
As you know, I had begun giving my boy, Bandit, b-12 injections a few weeks ago. Well, those ended this week as his behavior continued to be odd for him. Normally a cuddly , laid back cat,he is anxious and worried and hiding from me. Eating/drinking/litterbox normal, and he does come for cuddles and waits for me after work, then darts back under my bed. If I lay on the carpet, he will let me rub behind his ears and he purrs and rolls onto his back.
He's had a very rough bout of pancreatitis and LOTS of vet visits and I think he's just done with that. One thing I know: He HATES needles.
My thinking is, that I have a feeling his b-12 injection hurt him---later on and as a result, he had pain and it scared him. A shooting pain---I noticed 2 days after his first shot, I went to give him his meds for pancreatitis and megacolon, and he yowled and then darted off the couch. I cuddled him and no big deal---this happened 3 other times, once before heading to the vet for his 2nd injection of b-12 and that's when I noticed him slowly getting worse in regards to his behavior. We have stopped them and giving him some bupernorphine and he's doing well. In fact, while still leery, his is coming out from under the bed more while I am home, and was even ON my bed when I got home tonight. He does jump back down and hide, but he is SLOWLY improving.
Can cats have thinner skin that may feel tenderness for longer with any form of injections? With all the subq fluids and the b-12 shots, I'm not surprised he's tender! (And blood work). They did use different areas for all this, but I wouldn't be surprised if he is sore.
Skye has made a full recovery from her pancreatitis and I am so so thankful that both my babies are doing better. <3 <3
