My cat has had a recurrent yeast infection in her ears.  After trying anti fungal  medication and it not doing any good,  I asked my vet if my cat could possibly have some type of immune suppressant disease as I had read that this is a sign of recurrent yeast infections.  So we did a blood test and included a feline Leukemia test and unfortunately it came back positive.   I am really devastated.  My cat is only 7.5 years old and she actually did test positive when she was a kitten but then tested negative later.   At the time I was assured that it was not uncommon for kittens to test positive and then negative.  I was told that since she tested negative that she could not have FeLV.    I would have never brought home a FeLV cat as I already had another cat.    I rushed my other cat to the vet to have a FeLV test and thankfully he was negative.  Hopefully,  the vaccine will prevent him from getting it as I can't separate them.

Does anyone have a similar experience?  Or any suggestions on keeping my kitty as healthy as possible.

That is horrible to think everything was fine, only to find out that he really does have FeLV.  I'm so sorry.  And I guess they don't have any idea how long he's actually had it?

I don't have any personal experience with it, but maybe this thread can be a little helpful to you:  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/222687/felv-experiences  That thread is pretty old now, though, and some of those posters are no longer active, however, maybe some of the information will still help you.

This article from Cornell might also be of some use:  http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/Health_Information/brochure_felv.cfm

And, finally, there's this thread about a new(ish) treatment:  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/255638/t-cyte-treatment-for-felv-fiv-cats
