My mother is a Elementary/Middle school counselor in a public school not far from here.

Now, there is a student there who is 12 yrs of age and (due to a unusually low IQ) is still in fifth grade. He told a few days ago to his teacher that he had turned 13. The teacher thought that, since he is now in age for an ubication test, which can, depending on his results put him in a higher grade, if he qualifies for it.

Soooo, my mother talks with the father and the father says "yes, he is already 13, we should do the test".

She starts doing the paperwork, and as part of it, she gets the photocopy of his birth certificate, which is in the school records. The detail is that when she looks at it, it says he won't turn 13 until September 17!

Now, sixty years ago, such a thing would not have been rare, as those demographic registries were often not cared of and parents in the country would many times not register their children, and there were a lot of cases of people (including in my family) who did not resgister till the marriage, and then there were discrepancies asto the date of birth. We thought a bit of that possibilty

Nowadays that is impossible, its a felony not to register a child in more than 10 days, and he has to be examined by a doctor, before he provides the certificate.

She thinks a bit, that he may have been born outside of Puerto Rico where rules may be weirder... but it clearly reads "Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico".

So... she concludes that they were lying. When she approaches him he doesn't know anything, and swears he was born 17 february 1991, not 17 september 1991. He had even had a birthday party!

Ok... guess what is the outcome... The parents thought it was february! They themselves had apparently forgotten their son's birhtday!

Now the detail is this: Who on earth can be so stupid as to forget their own son's birthday????? (Is there any mother around here who can answer me that????)

Things like this do happen. When I was growing up, my dad could never remember his kid's birthdays, and now he can't remember his grandchildren's birthdays. My son can never remember my birthday, and last year, one of my co-workers wasn't sure about her own age and had to ask her mother!!!!!!

You think that's silly! I STILL don't know my parent's birthdays
and I'm old enough to know better! I guess what I'm trying to
say is that really a birthday is really not that much of a deal!
I don't really understand what difference a 7mo. differencewould make?
Is it really that big of a deal?--persia

Maybe there are lots of children in the family. I know a couple with 7 children and the mom gets mixed up about her kids' birthdays (sometimes even their names)!

My dad and brothers never remember any date. But I like remember the birthday of the boy I had a crush on in kindergarder. (Dec 3) But for both parents to forget the kid's birthday is kind of sad.....

What is it about first crushes I remember mine too (July 15) But I can't remember my boy-friends, it's ether(sp) Aug, 28, or 29.. Don't tell him that though.

What is wrong with a student to be only 12 and in grade 5? Some children are just not ready to go to school and learn at an early age but it doesn't mean the child is low in intellagence.

But forgetting your childs birthday is really sad.

Actually, his IQ is in 80. The average is 100. At the same time, it doesn't meant they are morons, as I know that most of those cases get on to vocational professions.

Every time I hear of a case where the parents disagree as to the date of birth (happened a lot in the 30s and 40s) I usually believe the mother more... she was the one with the pain that day... hard to forget.

right...

I know all my families birthdays, but not any of my friends. No real reason too, they'll tell me when its coming
that is if they want presents.

Peace,
Brandon
