How can 3 kids with the same parents and same upbringing be so different? I have 2 boys and a girl, all adults now. They are as different as night and day from one another. The only similarity is the fact that they are all hard working and very intelligent (not always with common sense though!). My oldest is quiet and awkward in situations he isn't familiar with, yet once he finds his comfort zone he opens up and becomes a prankster. He is tenderhearted. My daughter, if she had lived in the 1960-70s would have been considered a hippie. She is an artist and is a total feminist. She is very outspoken with little tact, much like her father. My youngest is an adventurer, always learning something new. It amazes me when I think about it.

Sounds like you have raised 3 great human beings with very different personalities.  I believe that it is a combination of genetics and upbringing.  We have went back and forth between the extremes, all genetics to all upbringing.  I believe that it is a combination.  I believe the genetics isn't just one gene but a combination of genes that come together differently for each child.
