Some a-hole across the street from where i feed one of my colony cats keeps throwing out the cat food and boxes used to keep food dry- they even went into the bushes to do it- it was hidden. what should i do? i know who it is...

i was thinking of leaving them a note in mailbox saying please dont touch food because its not on your property and not your business and a really rotten thing to do and if you do it again the hs and or cops will be at your door...

where i feed her is right across the street, where there are no houses, only a fence and bushes etc... next to a business. There are only 4 homes on the opposite side of where i always feed her. I know the guy who is doing it because he saw me climb into the underbrush to put cat food/water in there. He was the only one to see me too. I am sure. Who the heck does that? He dumped the food and threw the box somewhere that i used to keep the food dry. I go there everyday. This guy lives in a fourplex with other losers, all on welfare or potheads.

You could purchase a trail camera and catch him in the act.  You also could put up signs.

I wouldn't leave a note in the mail box, instead I would address him directly.

Do you have permission to feed the kitty on this property?  If not, I would talk to the owner to be sure.

I agree, although if you talk to him directly, have someone from the HS with you.  That should help.

Don't challenge - and I know how hard that will be.  When people are unreasonable, it is very easy to charge in and smack them upside the head.  Wish we could sometimes but it is better to try diplomacy first.  Just as you said, it isn't his property.  And as ShadowsRescue points out, getting the owner's permission is going to give your argument more weight.

Good luck!

I'm on your side, BUT, it isn't your property either.  Do you have permission to feed the cats there?  Some municipalities have bylaws forbidding feeding cats and other animals.  without written permission you really have no more rights than he does.  Appealing to such a person's better self IMO does no good, they don't have one, but it's worth a try.

Two things aren't clear to me.  Do you have the business owner's permission to feed the cats on his property?  If not, talk to him.  You can point out the excellent rodent control he is getting as one of the benefits of having the cats there.  Again, having someone from the Humane Society with you will help a lot.

If he does not want the cats, then is there any possibility you can move them to your yard?  It will take work but it can be done.

He is a cat hater most likely and will be difficult to reason with. You might have to move the location a bit, and it would definitely help to have that business owner's permission. Then you could inform him that you have permission to be on the property and it is HIM who is trespassing and destroying property and the police will be contacted if it happens again. Try to be definite on who is doing it, it may be the business owner. I hope you get to continue your feeding, I pray you will be blessed for your kindness!
