Yeah, sorry about the graphic title, but thats whats going on..

So basically I've had this kitten for about 2 weeks now. When I got her, she had diarrhea, and I didn't know what to do. I spent a lot of money on treatments and finally the metronadozle and marquis mixture seemed to clear up the diarrhea. Problem mostly solved. Here is a link to the old thread about her diarrhea problem, which would definitely help you better understand my situation: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/324655/...dont-know-what-to-do-and-feel-really-stressed

She's had poop stuck to her butthole constantly and i thought it was just because of the diarrhea, which cleared up, but I've noticed that her butt hole is still very dirty and poopy. today i took her to the groomer to have her butt trimmed down so that it might solve the problem, and i could feel comfortable letting her on my furniture and actually spending time with her. the groomer cleaned her all up, there was no poop left and her anus was very clean. Happy about her newfound cleanliness, I decided to finally nap with her on my bed. The nap lasted about an hour. When i woke up and checked her butt, i noticed that already, her anus had formed a crusty brown ring around it, without her even having gone to the bathroom.

im so frustrated because i don't think this is normal, and her diarrhea is gone so why is this still happening?? she doesn't clean herself, either.

I feel like I can't fully feel comfortable cuddling her or being with her because she gets poop on me, on the furniture, and stinks. its really sad because she doesn't get all the affection she deserves and has to sleep alone in the living room, but i can't help being repulsed.

She's on Hill's science diet kitten chow. I switched from wet to dry food about a week ago, and the problem had still been happening with her previous owner.

So what could this be? Is it anal gland juice? how can it appear so quickly on her butt when she had literally been clean 1 hour ago.....? do most cats get this? why won't she clean herself?

im so frustrated, please help! this is my first kitten.

This is a kitten. She's been sick and when we are sick, hygiene isn't always our first priority.

Part of owning a kitty is indeed, keeping bums clean and our houses clean after these episodes. I have dollarstore blankets on my furniture and on my bed so I can comfortably sleep/nap and if one of my kitties has an accident, it just goes in the laundry.

What you likely saw was she did have a bowel movement and hadn't cleaned yet. Likely her poor little tushie is so sore, she doesn't want to groom--did the vet give her a full week of metronitozole--it's an antibiotic and seems to clear up diarrhea.

Best of luck to you and stay strong and lots of air freshers and air neutraliers--baking soda will be your best friend.

She is over her sickness, though. There's still crap oozing out of her butt even when she hasn't gone potty. Why? What is it? the diarrhea is over so i don't get why she is still "leaking"...its been a week of her being "better"

Ahhh--ok, so it's still oozing. This has happened to my kitties. What is your kitty eating? Diet can be a big factor in the runs. Metronitozole will help, but you need to continue with your vet.  Remember, the colon is a muscle. It contracts every 20 mins or so (that's for humans, not sure about cats). With a cat who has an illness or possible an irritation, these contractions will continue rather than stop (paristalsis).  It's also taking water from your kitty to create the runs, which is why her hydration is also important. Ironically, if she gets dehydrated, she can have the runs.

There are foods that are binding, such as rice, but I would not do anything until you check with your vet.

Iams and Science Diet foods are notorious for causing diarrhea. At least in my kitties.

Hello. I was wondering if you ever figured this out? I have a kitten who has the same problem. There is a crusty black ring around her butthole and she gets little crusty blackish looking poop or scabs on her butthole. I took her to the vet and he picked off the crusties but they came back after 2 days. He gave her an antibiotic shot and a steroid shot but the crusties are back. I’m not convinced that it is just poop. It looks like scabs and her butt STINKS like a musky fishy odor.
