My husband is on my case re my getting silicosis from the dust in the litter box. I also know the dust isn't good for the cats. I have used Scoop Away for 9 months since I got Bailey and the last two days I've tried to introduce Feline Pine into the mix and planned to gradually reduce the Scoop Away until lit was all Feline Pine. The first day there was one feces that she didn't cover, and today there has only been one urine. She usually poops twice a day and now I'm afraid she won't go at all! Anyone have experience with this product?
Is Bailey going to get constipated?

It's been my experience with my 2 cats that if
they don't like a certain litter(sorta like the food issue), they
let their humans know the only way they know how.
I too tried Feline Pine and other litters and they didn't
like the way these litters felt on their paws.
I heard that Arm & Hammer litter didn't produce a lot of dust
or bad smell(very important!), so I tried it. Well, whatcha know!
they happened to approve! You might try this also, Your cats may not
approve of this either, so what you do is KEEP TRYING!
Good luck!----persia

The time I tried Feline Pine my cats decided pooping on the floor was a better option, that clinched it for me.

I use this product- run it all the time and it cuts down substantionally on the dust and the odor. I have the majority of the litterpans outside now, but still have a couple upstairs just in case.

I just bought arm & hammer Super Scoop and it was so dusty I had to cover my face just to breath (this stuff does NOT taste good at all!!!) This stuff came in a box with a pour spout, maybe I just got a different kind? Oh well, I bought it cause it was on sale and is clumping, I can't live without clumping litter!

When my mother had her cats declawed (oooowww) she used the filine pine just for those first few weeks and it worked fine for the cats however, we HAD to go back to scoopable because of the cost to replace all of the litter every time we cleaned the boxes. Anyway, we regularly use Tidy cats for a multiple cat household (we have about 15 inside if you include the adoptables that we foster) we have found that the best thing we can do about the dust is wear a breathing mask (surgical mask) you can usually get them at a drug store for a cheap price.

The A&H I bought at WalMart( less expensive there!) wasn't
like that at all. but as for the dust mask issue, I think this is a good idea for those who are especially sensitive to litter or any kind of dust.---persia

I am usually not sensitive at all, I could care less about the dust, just as long as the cats use it. I think it just bothered me because I have a head cold so my sense of smell and all that aren't normal. We usually use tidy cats, but this was cheaper at the grocery store, I haven't checked the price of A&H at wal mart, that is usually where we buy the litter. How much does yours cost at wal mart, how many pounds come in it?

There's no place like home
I tried a litter box with feline pine (I thought the concept was great) and even though it used to be their favorite box, they avoided it like the plague.

I have air purifiers throughout the house and for the room with the most litter boxes, have a window fan blowing outward all the time to suck out the dust and odors. That works very well.

It was a bonus pack of17.50lbs. It costs around $6.50
(no more than that, but it could have been less, I don't recall)

There are clumping litters that are almost dust-free; the problem is finding them. I've found three over here that are quite good: "Cat&Clean", "Sauberkater" and "Super Pura". All three are extremely fine and rather economical, because the clumps are small and hard and thus easy to scoop. I have no idea if they're available in N. America, though. The "Super Pura" is from India, and cats seem to love the earthy smell it has; the betonite is baked in the sun rather than in an oven. I've found that if I find a Web site for a brand I'd like to try, many companies will send low-cost or free samples, so you don't have to buy 30 lbs. of something your cats decide they don't like.
