Hello!

My cat, Mittens, recently had kittens and they are sure a handful. I work all day, and it gives me peace of mind that the 3 week old kittens are safe in some sort of box or carrier while I'm gone. But, I can't seem to find something that can hold them, all while still having the ability for momma cat to get in there with them.

There are 3 of them, and they are rambunctious like their Daddy (Who is a 1 year old tuxedo named Bubs). I'm keeping them in a box with an open top that's pretty good size (Mom, Dad, and all 3 kittens can fit comfortably.

I'd really like to find something that can hold them, but also make it a little easier for Mittens to get in without having to jump over a 2 foot box to get in. Suggestions?

Hello! They are very sweet!

A few things -
Has dad been neutered? Mom can get pregnant within a week of delivery and without going into heat, so they should definitely be separated at this point.

Also, mom should not wear a collar while the kittens are so small. They can get stuck in it.

Can you try a box with high sides? You can cut a small doorway out for mom.

Dad has not been fixed yet. I plan on taking him when my vehicle gets running.

I have tried a box with high sides and a cutout for mom, but the kittens just climb up the sides and get out.

And her collar is off now. The picture I posted is old. Thank you for your insight. It helps alot

Can you keep mom and dad separated until he is fixed? You really don't want mom getting pregnant again now.

If they're already escaping, can you kitten proof a room and let them be in there?

Mom and dad are always separated when I'm not here. I find it unfair to keep dad locked up while I'm home. But if they cannot be watched, he is locked up in a climate controlled room with food, water, and toys.

And I am trying the kitty proofed room as we speak and it seems to help. Thank you!
