Hi everyone, back in March I had posted about my 14 yr old female calico, Pixel, requiring dental cleaning and 3 teeth extractions. I was very worried how she'd pull through, seeing as she was diagnosed with CKD stg2, however after the surgery she bounced back and is full of energy and really back to her former glory.
My boy Dexter, 13 yr old, requires dental cleaning / surgery as well, and it would appear I may have waited too long to get it done because he seems to be in a fair amount of pain. His activities are restricted to sitting up, staring at the wall, and his breathing appears very forced, like he's labouring to do so. He's also much more reserved, and hides a lot, and has trouble sleeping. I'm very worried about him so I made an appointment this afternoon at the vet to get him looked at.
I want my Dexter back to being the mischievous, playful, loving cat he always was! The problem is, the vet detected a lvl 4 heart murmur in him. He's had this without any negative effect since he was 8 yrs old. What extra precautions does a vet do when putting the cat under anesthesia, is it always safe to do so in a senior cat? I feel as though I am doing something incredibly right for my kitty but with a high risk of him not pulling through! Any insight will definitely be appreciated.
