This kitten season there was a mother cat that was brought into the shelter with her litter of 5 kittens but 2 of them were so much smaller than the rest and she was rejecting them so we took them away from her and I bottle fed them but they did not grow and thrive like the rest did. The 2 made it to six weeks and then they slowly started to fade. They were both 6 weeks old and only weighed 10 ounces!! Dahlia died first and then Iggy was humanely euthanzied because she was so lethargic and the shelter said she was suffering. Losing them both was so heartbreaking. I kept feeling like I did something wrong or didn't do enough but everyone says they were just born with a birth defect. I just wish the shelter could of tried to do more for them but they are not equipped for this kind of thing. RIP my precious little babies.

poor little babies, thank you for your efforts. Sadly there are times when even the most valiant efforts are not enough.

Aw, I am so sorry about Iggy and Dahlia. What dear little sweethearts they were.  And how lucky to have you taking care of them for their short lives, giving them love and TLC.  It seems it doesn't matter how long we have them, they just manage to get their claws into our hearts.  I hope some day you find comfort in knowing you made their short lives easier and happier.

RIP Iggy and Dahlia.

Those  sweet , precious mites! My heart breaks that they didn't grow up, the world is a poorer place without them in it.  Don't think for one minute that you didn't mean something to them, they could feel your love and concern, and what you gave them meant everything to them. They knew love in their short lives, their tiny hearts embraced yours and they left a piece of that heart for yours to hold forevermore. I cry with not understanding why something like this has to happen, but it does despite our best efforts and the best of care, it is just something that is beyond the control of us humans and now is in the hands of God. My heart goes out to you for the pain you feel, but you cared, and that is a gift you gave them that is equal to none.  I'm sure they thank you for that, but they had to go, and at least they have each other at the Rainbow Bridge where they will meet the countless others before them,  each one as precious as the rarest jewel, and each one missed so very much. No matter how many times we have to go through this kind of grief, each one hurts deeply because each one is a new hole in our heart that leaves a scar to remind us of our loss. Try not to dwell on their end, but try to concentrate on the fact that  you made a difference in their lives and you shared your time and your heart with them, if even for such a short while. I know the pain of losing such tiny, precious souls. We never forget something like this, but we learn by it and it may help us in the future.I  saved and had all of the cats in my care (and that is quite a few!) vaccinated against distemper and more, I couldn't let that horrible disease take any more lives if I could help it. You may even help to get that shelter equipped to care for the critically sick through fund drives and getting donations from those who can help, and do it all in Dahlia and Iggy's name. Those sweet faces can move mountains. I will pray for you all, you are not alone in your grief. Thank you for letting us know of these tiny babies, they deserve to be in the thoughts and prayers of many, and now they will be. RIP sweet Dahlia and Iggy, you  will never be forgotten, know you will be held in a loving heart forever more by the one who loved and cared for you!

So sorry to hear that this happened, but you did all you could for them, unfortunately, sometimes things just aren't supposed to work out like we would want it to. But they are full grown and healthy now, running and playing in Heaven at the Bridge.

God Bless you for taking care of them....

What adorable little kittens! Sadly, the odds are often against all of a feral mom's offspring surviving, and no matter how hard you try to keep them alive they leave you after all too short a time. RIP, little babies. You were loved for your short time on earth. :rbheart:
