Yesterday, my cat Pig didn't eat a lot. I fed her breakfast today and now she can't keep anything down and doesn't really seem interested in the food. She used to have a similar problem but we switched her to grain free blue buffalo (dry). But one of our cats, Bear, had a UTI so we switched them all go wet. I think Pig has been having diarrhea for a couple of days and now she is not able to keep food down. I gave her some slippery elm paste to soothe her stomach lining followed by 3cc of syringe fed water. She promptly threw up the water but the paste seems to be staying down. She's not looking too hot and I'm a little nervous for her. Our cats have been in and out of the vet office for a while now and funds are significantly decreasing by this point. Also, it is Sunday and an emergency vet visit would require a lot more than just not able to keep food down. The wet food does have wheat gluten in it and I'm wondering if she could be having a problem with that. She also had a UTI a while back and that could also be causing it. :( I'm keeping her secluded in the kitchen with a litter pan, water, and grain free wet food. This way I can see if she is urinating and having bowel movements. Poor baby. She keeps licking her lips so I know she's still nauseous. And swallowing. Poor baby. She doesn't smell sweet like she is diabetic and is acting quite normally dispite her upset tummy. Obviously I'm going to stop giving her grain food and switch her to the grain free variety.

She needs to see a Vet. I know you do not want to go that route, but honestly, she needs the Vet..

Her symptoms need to be addressed. Neither Slippery elm bark or anything else you try at home, will not address her symptoms.

She needs the Vet.. ASAP.. today...

Well, last time I brought her in for this they just gave me reglan. But I can't remember what she was eating then. I understand you are worried for my baby, but please trust that I am keeping a very close eye on her and will call the vet tomorrow if she is not yet well. I will make sure that if she still cannot keep food down by tonight or starts to vomit bile I will take her into an emergency vet clinic. I understand that the slippery elm does not cure whatever is wrong: it will just settle her stomach enough that she can eat a little which is my primary concern right now. She has been having GI issues since she was I year old. The vet prescribed her the sensitive stomach formula food which did nothing. I just switched her food to a grain food and now after a month she is showing symptoms of GI upset. Also, her litter mate just had a flare of the herpes virus and if she has any mucus in her sinuses she could be swallowing it and it also causing GI upset. I am always at the vet. I am the paranoid one and they know me by name. This time I don't think spending all that money at th emergency vet is such a smart choice at this particular moment. I am keeping a very close eye on her and will keep you posted.

Dry food stayed down. Wysong uretic food. VERY expensive and cannot get local. I only had a small sample bag. So I had to go out and buy Blue Buffalo indoor which she tolerates very well. She only ate a couple mouthfuls but I bet her tummy is still so upset from me feeding her the soy, corn, and wheat gluten in the Rx urinary food and the wet foods. All my other babies tolerate the gluten and other grains just fine, but I guess my pig will have to be the special one. Now how to get her to drink enough water to keep her hydrated while feeding her dry food? I have so many special need kitties it seems. Sigh....
