Hello just brought home two ferals to socialize last night (never done this before) and set them up in a separate room of my apartment with a playpen and toys food etc.. today when I used my brand new flea comb and took a ton of fleas off of them. I also have two older cats I keep in the other parts of the apartment. I put flea medication on all the cats and bought a flea bomb and was thinking of using it in the room where the kittens have been staying. Do you think my apartment is infested already? Also if I used the bomb (raid, takes two hours) how should I clean their playpen and toys and should I was all of the clothing articles I have in laundry baskets nearby? Btw I have let them explore the room so I am worried eggs might have fell about.

I have never used a flea bomb and would definitely try other measures first.  I would not like all of the chemicals it leaves behind.

I will say I have used bombs in the past, and luckily had no reactions (by myself or my animals).  I had one foster that came straight to my house many years ago - before I knew as much about socializing and without her being vetted first- and I couldn't actually touch her for days, and when I finally could, realized she was loaded and loaded and loaded with fleas. TO the point that when my husband at the time would walk into the apartment (not even "her" room!!!) in shorts - - you'd look down and see fleas hopping all over his (very hairy) legs!!!! It was really, really unpleasant. We kind of had no choice on the bombing - - our entire apartment was beyond infested. And this was so long ago that the internet and the amazing availability of instant information (and sites like this!) didn't exist so my knowledge was more limited.

But that was WAY more than you're probably dealing with....if flea meds have been applied to her, and you're using DE you're hopefully covered - you caught things very early it sounds like. But I'd continue to comb - which is great with two ferals that you CAN comb - they're obviously well on their way to being wonderful pets! Combing will ease your mind as you see less - and have the added benefit of cleaning the flea dirt off of them. Focus on the areas around the tail and neck, but get as much as possible.

Good luck - you're doing a great thing! Keep us posted!
