I have two cats, both young males (2-3yo approximately, both shelter rescues so I'm not sure of exact ages,) a 10-lb tabby DSH and a 12-lb DLH.

When I took the tabby (Sloan) to the vet for his yearly checkup, the vet said he was a little overweight (12.5lbs) and to only feed him 1/2 cup of dry food per day. This was before I got the second cat, the DLH.

Now, I feed both 1/2 cup of Wellness brand Indoor Health dry food in the mornings, but by the time I get home in the evenings they act like they're hungry and are always STARVING by the morning.

Any tips/tricks? I separate them when I first give food to discourage them from eating each other's food, but obviously once I leave for work I can't control if one of them eats the other's food.

Thanks in advance! These two are my first cats so this is all new to me.

I have 4 cats and one kitten. Each cat gets a half a can of 5 oz food a day and 1/4 of a cup of dry food a day. One cat is slightly overweight and gets played with more than my other ones a day, so she's losing weight. The kitten gets feed 4 times a day. Half a can of 5 oz of canned food and 1/4 of a cup of dry food 3X a day....she rarely eats all of the dry food. Water is available 24/7 but they don't drink much since I give more canned food usually.

Have you tried one of those treat balls? I have 1 and just ordered a second; when I am at work they have a little bit of food (not treats!) to eat while I am away without them getting fat.

IF you only want ti feed dry food, then why not split up their meals and feed them 1/4 cup in the morning and 1/4 cup in the evening.  That way they won't be starving by the next morning, and you can better watch over them at dinner time to make sure each one is getting their full portions..
