Is this possible?????My 2 year old male was neutered at 6 months. I found a stray and after having her checked for chip and tested for feline leukemia I brought her home. Everything is ok other than she went into heat (being spayed next week) but my husband swears the male mounted her and performed completely. I know he was neutered because the meowing to go out stopped, he has gained some weight and the attitude improved dramatically. Until this. Any suggestions? I feel really stupid for asking this but I really need to know. I foster cats on occasion and I would like to know what to expect the next time I have a female that I am not sure if she is spayed. Thank you in advance for any help!

This does happen! I took in a stud boy who I decided should retire. I had him neutered and allowed him to roam the house freely with my unspayed girls. Imagine my horror when he mated one of the girls just one day after his operation! I quickly phoned the vet who assured me that he may continue to do this while his testosterone levels are high and that this would probably decrease in the future. However, he cannot impregnate the girls he mates with. So, he appears to act a bit like a "teaser-tom" at this stage.
I am not sure how long this will go on for....

You can take the "tom" out of the cat but the standard equipment is still there. Unlike your cat, our neutered male shelter cat thinks every kitten, puppy, ferret, guinea pig, or hamster brought into the office is his kitten and he is the mommy.

Have you considered getting the vet to give you a fact sheet on the expected behavior of neutered males and read it to the cat?

He has been neutered for over a year!!!!!Why me??????These darn men!!!! (only kidding, what would we do without you?)
Well, thankfully she will be spayed soon and this problem will be over for now. At least I know that this is possible. I almost said to my husband "how stupid do you think I am?". Glad I checked it out before saying that.
Thank you Krissi for answering me. WOW...sunny South Africa. The internet truly is awesome to be able to correspond with you.
God bless you and all you animals.

I had a retired CornishRex cat male and a female . Befor I got the male , the breeder neuter him . With the female I waited a long time due to her heart murrmmur (sp)to get her spayed . Well , no need to say she got in heat . Yes the fixed male did what he was suposed to do , he was a stut befor I got him
. But he could not make any more baby's
and it seem that Calipso my female was calming down after he helped her a little
. Now tell me cats don't have plesure LOL
. And I also need to say that he was frustrated (sp) that he could not do the hole thing and started to show signs of depression
. So I got a 2nd opinion on Calipso heart murrmmur and got her spayed .

I know a few breeders with teaser-tom cats. This is a retired stud who has not been neutered by castration, but has had his tubes tied, very much as they do in humans! This means that the tom will still mate the girls who are in season, "satisfying" them in the process, so that they stop calling and for several weeks do not come on heat again. I have found that this is most commonly done when breeders have a queen who is prone to pyometra and comes into season very frequently, aggravating the problem.

My one neutered male is almost 8 years old. He still jumps on his also-neutered brother and performs from time to time. I notice it more in certain times of the year. Poor Joey, who is 3 years younger, always has this look on his face like he is being violated!

My female dachshund thinks she has equipment and goes after the other spayed female and neutered male on occassion. I told her that I would ship her to SF if she wanted to make the arrangement legal. She hasn't given me a reply. Strangely enough, animals do behave strangely...

Hey everyone,
And to think I was embarrassed to post this. The replies really make me feel like this is the place to be for cats. Thanks so much for the great answers.
Mark, I told him about the expectations of a neutered cat and he turned and sprayed. Yes, he also does that from time to time.
But I love him.
I love all my 7 cats and 3 dogs. It's a long story why I have so many but suffice to say this is my limit.
God bless you all!
