Both of cats are not feeling too peachy!

Ok, so it started a week ago, I was woken up to my cats (mama cat and her 5month old kitten) fighting. They have never fought before but for some reason, the were really brawling. Obviously, I pulled them apart and noticed cow (5Month old kitten) had pooped herself, I was a little worried but assumed she was so frightened that she just pooped. Anyway, I took her to the bathroom and washed her because she was covered. Once she was clean and dried, I went back to my bedroom to tidy up and kitty (mama cat) was growling through the door at cow (that had never happened).
well it all went down hill from there.
They both had to be separated for the remainder of the night due to them fighting and I woke up in the morning and cow had pooped all around my bedroom (cow has never pooped outside of her litter tray). I started to get worried, as it was diarrhea. Cow was OK during the day, both cats still separated due to them growling and kitty swiping at cow but then she started throwing up after her meals. I took cow to the vets the next day, as she was keeping no food down and still had diarrhea (still not going in the litter tray). The vet gave me some antibiotics and something to firm up her poop (TMI, I no, I'm sorry). Unfortunately, this didn't work, her diarrhea cleared up but she was still throwing up after each meal and also, kitty started throwing up with diarrhea (stress!!). I took cow back to the vets, as she was the one ill first and they changed her antibiotics to some stronger stuff and luckily, she seemed to perk up and keep her food down. Kitty appeared OK but then yesterday, she completely refused her food (which she never does, especially since they became ill, they've been on boiled chicken and kitty loves it). I started to become very concerned but as it was 8pm by then and the vets were closed, I thought I'd see how she went during the night. All last night kitty kept throwing up and considering she wasn't eating or drinking, I was worried about dehydration. So 1st thing in the morning I rushed her to the vets, they gave her antibiotics and a fluid injection but she appears very lethargic. She usually loves going out and I usually have to force her in the house lol but when I got home, she was sleeping at the window. I brought her in to the living room and she's been sleeping on the sofa since, that was 6 hours ago, I've tried to give her some water but she just doesn't want anything. I know the vet has given her medication but I've never seen her like this.

Kitty is still growling at cow, whenever cow comes in to her sight of vision. I don't understand why she's doing that either.

Also, cow pooped around the house again today, which is started to get a tad annoying and I don't understand why she is not using the litter tray, she has always used the litter tray.

Sorry for the long story

Is everyone spayed and neutered? That would be my first thought as to why conflict is starting.

@kittycat

I'm so sorry that your cats have been ill and are fighting. It is puzzling when a mom and daughter are suddenly no longer getting along. I think that can be addressed after their health issues are resolved. Both cats sound stressed, and being sick will contribute to that.

Is Cow still having diarrhea? What medication is Cow on?

Has Kitty stopped vomiting? What did the vet give her?

Let's see if we can sort out what's going on.

I want to add, as long they have diarrhea and vomiting, giving the pedialyte - bought or home-made, is good and wise.

Do you have suitable recipes?  If not  I will post some.  Main thing, it shall contain glucose sugar and preferably several different salts.

Also, getting antibiotics, some sort of nice probiotic is good.  At least, a plain full fat mild youghurt is a standard home remedy.  It helps to stabilize the bacteria flora in bowels.

Hey, some nice probiotics is good anyways, having diarrhea...

Good you did went to the vet.  Let him take charge and responsibility...   :)

ps.  I too though Cow becoming of age may be the reason for the hostilities.  Another typical cause may be redirected aggression.  They saw some intruding cat through the window,  or felt some unknown smell from an unknown cat - which you perhaps brought home - the scent that is.

Its redirected aggressions which often gives these frenzy attacks, in an otherwise friendly cat.

Cow' diarrhea has decreased but still soft stool. Kitty has runny stool. Cow was on metranidazole and pro Kolin but they are both now on nisamox (different doses due to size). Kitty has not vomited today as far as I'm aware, nor has cow.
Again so sorry for the graphic information

It was so random and because they lashed out for the first time at night while I was sleeping, I don't even know how or why the fight started. It's frustrating because they were so loving to each other only a few hours prior. Since then, as soon as kitty gets a whiff of cow in her proximity, she's growling, swiping and hissing. It's strange though because cow has only growled at her on the odd occasion and is quite oblivious to her mother's aggression. She will go over to her mum and smell her or try to get close to her, even though we all know kitty is going to lash out. It just seems so mean but I understand there is a reason why kitty is acting the way she is, I just wish I knew what it was.

It may also be Cow being sick change the scent of her, and Kitty reacts to this.  feels for her as a stranger.

Is that possible, for a cats scent to change when ill?

I think we can better determine why they are not getting along after they both get well. Right now I think it may have to do with strange odors on Cow from the vet's office that Kitty can smell.

Are they eating any kitten chow? Dry food usually will help firm up a stool.

Also, mixing the powder from a probiotic capsule into wet food will help both of their guts, as Stefan mentioned.

I'm glad Kitty is no longer vomiting. Her stool should get firmer soon.

Is Cow still pooping outside the litter box? You may want to completely empty and clean their boxes since they were sick, and start with fresh litter.

Also clean the areas where Cow has pooped around the house with an enzyme cleaner such as Oxyclean to get rid of any trace of odor, as cats tend to go back and use places where they've already pooped.

I would keep them separate for now until Kitty feels better, and as soon as Cow is well enough she needs to be spayed.

They were fighting before the vet visit unfortunately.
Yes, cow is still pooping round the house, I've changed and cleaned the cat litter and still she won't poo in it. I'm hoping she has not developed a fear of it tbh.
Yes, my vet is waiting for me to call them with the go ahead, as soon as cow is better. Hopefully not a long wait because I couldn't cope with a mummy daughter granddaughter brawl lol

Are you keeping cow inside until she is spayed?

So I've woken up today and kitty has had her 1st meal in over 24hours but she still seems pretty lethargic. I've also noticed that she has a week patch on her fur, like she's urinated herself and has some green mucusy stuff stuck to bum and tail fur. What is happening to my cat, I'm waiting for a call back from my vet

Poor kitty. Let us know what the vet says. I know she's already on an antibiotic. She must feel awful. Try to wipe her down with a warm, damp cloth where she's soiled herself.

How's Cow today?

I've spoken to the vet and they said its probably due to the bug she has and she should gradually start feeling better in the next couple days on the antibiotics. She just spends all day sleeping bless her.
Cow is good, she seems to be back to her normal self, although I'm sure she has pooped some where but I can't seem to find it [emoji]128544[/emoji]

Hopefully that's all it is. Since she ate a meal she must be a smidgeon better, just weak. Poor Kitty. [emoji]128533[/emoji]

Make sure she has plenty of water so she's not dehydrated. Maybe tempt her with some tuna water.

Watch for the green mucus. That sounds like infection.

I hope she continues to improve. Keep us posted!

I will do, kitty has escaped out of the house. I'm unsure how I feel about her going out because she's ill, she's vulnerable to other cats (even though she has a feisty side, when she wants to be lol) but at the same time, I'm happy she wants do go exploring because all she's wanted to do is sleep

I think it's really important to get her back in and keep her in. Cats often run away when they are seriously ill...

I agree. She should not be outside while she is ill. Have you been able to bring her back in yet?
