Okay, this is a long and kind of complicated story but I have to include all of the details for it to make sense.

So my family and I took in a stray kitten named Phoebe a little over a month ago. We estimated her to be about four or five months old. She was very skinny and had some indications of intestinal problems like bloating and frequent but not solid bowel movements. We suspected she had worms. But when we took her to the vet he informed us that she had intestinal parasites, and that the bloating may actually be because she's pregnant. He never actually confirmed weather or not she was pregnant, and we weren't in a huge hurry to know. The vet also informed us that Phoebe was much older than we had thought, closer to fifteen months.

We gave Phoebe all of the medications we got from the vet to clear up her intestinal parasites and her bowel movements became solid and less frequent, but the bloating stayed. We assumed that this meant maybe she was pregnant as the vet suggested. Her nipples also got enlarged and pinker, further supporting our suspicion.

Now we assume she is nearing the end of her pregnancy and would be having her kittens soon. But last night she started acting very strange. She seemed very restless, pacing the front room, poking her head into the living room and then dashing away, going down the hallway and then coming back. We thought that maybe this was nesting behavior and she was trying to find a good place to have her kittens. SSo we fixed her a box in her favorite room of the house and hoped it would calm her down a bit. Then she started making strange noises and stretching her body out and treading her back legs, almost as if she were in heat. But the noises she was making while doing this seemed like she was distressed. And because we thought she was pregnant, we assumed she was preparing for labor.

She continued to do this for a little while and then stopped. When she stopped is when I went to bed. When I woke up in the morning she had several episodes of this same behavior that would last several minutes, stop, and then return after a little bit of time had passed. Each time she acted the same, she would meow as if she were distressed, squat or lay on her side and tread her back legs. She also was secreting a clear fluid from her vulva. We thought that this was labor, or contractions as there were ripples going down her back. It was really bizarre and concerning and it lasted most of the day. She also barely ate at all today, not even finishing half of a bowl of food where she normally finishes 2-3.

It finally stopped after she came into the living room with us, which she never does because we have a particularly rambunctious puppy in the living room and the two of them do not get along. But she came into the living room and continued the odd behavior and then went and hid behind the couch. All of these behaviors are completely out of the ordinary for. Some of these symptoms indicate that she is in heat, or that she is in labor. But because we never had it confirmed that she was pregnant we don't really know what's going on. If she is pregnant then of course she can't be in heat but because we never had it confirmed we just don't know.

Anyone that can help or offer advice would be highly appreciated. We are very concerned and we don't know what's going on.

Its not unusual they behave like in heat the last days of pregnancy.   So she may be high preg anyways.   It can also been a false pregnancy - although this is not very common...

Do you feel the kittens move?  You can feel and even see them move the last two weeks of pregnancy.  although the last days, when she has dropped, you dont feel them move as much.  Because when she has dropped, they sit more tighlty packaged.

Many females are very petite, this is surely why you thought she was a kitten.

And if not spayed and outside and of age, count she is pregnant.   So that is my bet she is.

Prepare as well you can!

ps. To be complete, they can even be in heat in the middle of pregnancy.  Although theoretically they skall not, but in practice they may.  Its not only for pretending, it may be for real.  We KNOW this, because now and then, they have double different litters, often with 3 weeks apart.   With a little luck they can carry forward and deliver both litters several weeks apart.   Its not common but not entirely unique.

So for example, one of my ex neigbours has / had  a cat from such a second litter.   She knew this for sure, because the farmer she got the kitten from told her.  He drowned the first litter asap, as farmers often do as a matter of course sparing one or two so mom wouldnt grieve too much.  But when the second litter come three weeks later, he realized this was something highly unusual, and thus let them all live, and found them good homes instead.

It does sound as though your cat is about to have kittens.

How much discharge is she having? How is she acting now?

Can you post a picture of her please?
