Hi, my 6 months old kitten could possibly be 4-5 weeks pregnant as I caugth her with one of the stray cats in our yard... I didn't pay attention to it as she is just a tiny kitten and I was due to take her for spaying when she turned 6 months ..
Now that she is due for her Desex op. I am getting a feeling she is pregnant... She is so tiny but her belly is like a round tennis ball... I did some research on how to tell if a cat is pregnant and I can surely tell her nipples are so big and red...I need urgent help how can such a tiny kitten become pregnant? And if she will be able to deliver her litter safely ... She will be 7 months old by the time she delivers...I have absolutely no idea abt cat breeding.. This is all very daunting for me;(

She certainly sounds pregnant!

Kittens can go into heat as young as 4 months. They are also induced ovulators, so if a male cat mates with them, ovulation is induced and they can become pregnant.

There are risks when kittens are so young, including labor and delivery problems, and mom not caring for her kittens.

I always recommend spaying at 12-16 weeks. Same for neutering, before male hormones come in.

You can still have her spayed if you wish. Do you know how far along she is?

If not, feed her kitten chow and wet food, and buy a can of powdered kitten formula (KMR) to have on hand in case kittens need supplementing. You'll also need a 1 or 2 mL needleless syringe on hand. Mom can have a dish a day to meet her calcium needs.

Pet Ag formula is best.

Since she is so young and not very far along, I would highly recommend that you go ahead with the spay and terminate the pregnancy. It will be very hard on her body to deliver and nurse a litter.

I would advise you to keep an open mind about all choices that you have. Do your research talk to vets and other organizations etc. Found an article that you can read http://www.petmd.com/blogs/fullyvetted/2007/may/feline-abortion-often-unnerving-necessity-6309
  • You can abort if you choose to. The rescue groups that we adopted out kittens from told me that they do abort stray cats and such if they are early in the pregnancy. There are so many live animals that need homes that adding more is not fair for the ones who desperately need them. If you need advice I can give you the rescue groups phone number they can give you some advice as they have a lot of experience with this kind of cases.
  • Also, I don't know whether Litter is more physically taxing on kitten or abortion at an early stage. Maybe someone here can tell you about it.
  • If you choose to have a litter please do try to find homes/no kill rescue for the kittens. Keep in mind there will be initial vaccination bills and they will need to be with Mom for the first 6 weeks before they are weaned.

What do you mean by "kitten show"?

You also need to keep her inside at all times.

Where do you live?

Perhaps it is called kitten kibble? It is dry food made especially for kittens and pregnant and nursing moms. It is extra high in nutrients. Your kitty needs it now, along with wet cat food.

There are some great ideas here. Kittens should really stay with mom for 10-12 weeks, though. 6 weeks is much too early!

My main concern is her health... Are there any cats out there who have given birth at 7 months of age. She will be 36 weeks old around the time of her delivery...

I live in Australia ... I will search for high quality kitten food. At the moment she eats Royal canin kitten food

It is possible, but I think it's quite risky.

You can't do better than Royal canin, it's a very good brand.

I did foster a cat who had given birth at 7 months, I got her when she was nine months old after the kittens were weaned.  She was a small cat and did not grow any bigger after I got her.  I did add a couple of pounds to her since she was still nursing the day I got her.  I think having kittens so young may have stunted her growth since her body gave all the nutrients to the growing fetuses even though her body needed them as well.

The average cat pregnancy is between 9 - 10 weeks.  If you are considering the spay/abortion now is a good time to do it.

Royal Canin is perfect! [emoji]128077[/emoji]

Unfortunately, we have many too-young kittens giving birth to kittens on the forum - usually they are rescued strays.

However, they usually do okay with birthing and raising them, but it's not the best thing at all for mom or the kittens.
