Hello

My cat is a year old male aegean. About medium hair. We are having a intense heat wave in new york city. My cat has been panting and has heavy breathing. I have put him in the Ac but he is still acting the same. But i am starting to think it might be sinus related. His nose is moving very quickly he is sneezing, and yesterday for the first time ever he threw up a hair ball with some vomit. My vet cant see him until the 1st of september. I have seen him sick before but im just worrier of a heat stroke or something else . i have been putting ice in his water as well. But he sometimes just runs away from it. If anyone can help me it will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Your vet can't see you until September???  Is your vet in the city?

I'll PM you with a vet who was recommended to me, they are in the city also.

That's a long way away and a lot can happen.  Pay in advance?  Can you get back the money.  They didn't preform a service for you so you are entitled to a refund.

I'll send the link anyway.  It's a very reasonable vet with decent prices.

How old is your boy.

I would try and get your money back and go elsewhere.  If this becomes an emergency it can end up costing more, including his life.

I'm in Queens and this heat isn't ideal for anyone, even with AC it's been unbearable.  I totally understand your situation but don't get the prepay vet thing.

I wish you luck.

Gotcha.  I feel for you.  Please keep us informed with any changes.  When my girl was sneezing last January she ended up having crystals in her urine.  How is he with everything else, eating, bathroom habits etc.  I honestly don't like the sound of the congestion.

Personally, I would take him to an emergency vet if the congestion is that bad.  Is it possible that he ate or drank something he shouldn't have? Cats do not usually pant unless there is something wrong or they are very stressed.  Also, as 2cats4everLoved asked, how is he otherwise?  Eating/drinking/litterbox habits? Is he acting normally aside from the panting?  I am only asking as a few years ago I had a kitty that really didn't show any signs at all of being sick until one morning when he wouldn't come downstairs to eat.  I took him to the vet to find out that his chest cavity had almost completely filled with fluid due to an infection.  I could not believe there were no prior signs.  Fortunately I got him to the vet in time to save him, but it was very costly and he had to spend a week in the hospital with chest tubes.  I do not mean to frighten you with this information, but I just want you to be aware that cats can hide their pain/illness very well.

When he is sleeping/resting, how many breaths a minute is he averaging?  Cats should be around 20-40 while resting.  Higher breathing rates indicate there is a potential problem.

I really hope you find a solution and your kitty gets well soon!

An easy test to tell if he is hydrated is to grab the fur and skin by the scruff and pull up gently, if it does not spring back quickly, he may need fluids.  I hope he is doing better today.

Hello

Hes great, thank you.Im convinced its because of the heat, i watched him all night and his breathing , the movements on his belly and nose seemed normal. He is acting like he always does, so i dont think anything is wrong with him.

Hello

Quick update. Saturday afternoon i took him to the clinic , he was breathing very fast and they took him in immediately, and gave him oxygen. They did x rays and blood work. Hes fine they think it must be asthma ot allergies. Maybe seasonal or chronic. He is on antibiotics and steroids.he might need and inhaler soon. So he is being monitored now.

You must be relieved knowing now what was troubling your little guy.  Thankfully the weather will be nice all week, he can catch a small break.

Thanks for the update, keep us posted.
