Welcome to TCS! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Make sure the nest is big enough for mom to fully stretch out to nurse so that she has plenty of room without laying on her kittens.

If you see her laying on them, gently move the kittens.

Make sure they are all latching and nursing well.

Mom also needs her food, water, and litter nearby so she does not have to go far from the kittens.

You said she gave birth to 5 but there were 7, and one died. How many kittens are there now?

How is it going now? Has the larger nest helped any?  Its not uncommon momma lays on the kittens, and obviously usually they dont get hurt  from it.  but obviously enough, we dont want this to be so, and try to move on her....   We dont want to  rely our hopes on usually, we prefer more safe situations.

Good to hear the has solved itself.   The question is, if the nest was a little too tight,  OR if she felt unsecure there, and laying on them was sort of for protecting them...   As she apparently feels safer and more comfortable under the sofa.
