Hi all,
I am so happy to have found this site. I am worried. Katy (14 or so) had 8 teeth removed on Friday (8/5). She had many others missing so she now only has three or four left. She is a former feral kitty so her instinct is to hide when she does not feel 100%. He trust only goes so far and she hates being handled. She has not had any pain medication as she does not do well with that. She was probably suffering for years with tooth issues which makes me feel horrible. I did not hesitate to help her when my vet of 40 years suggested surgery. For the first two days, I had her sequestered in my master BDRM and she was happy to be quiet and separate from the other three (one 6yr female and two 16 wk males). Night three, she started to protest but would still not let me get near her. I let her out to get adjusted back to the house. We are now into day 4 of her hiding under my bed all day. She has been eating well this whole time and was taking Clavamox until today - stopped it because of diarrhea. I am waiting to hear from the vet for alternatives to that antibiotic. But she is eating and does come out at night to roam. She has always been a kitty that is up at night and sleeps during the day but she is usually sleeping in the sunroom or another favorite spot out in the open and not hiding. My question is, am I too impatient? Is she still in pain and is protecting herself by hiding? How long does the recovery take before they no longer feel funny or painful? I have read about pain patches, should I consider this for Katy? I love this kitty so. She is very sweet.
