can someone give me some advice on what i am doing wrong? i just had my cat spayed about two weeks ago and now she ( sabrina is her name) is peeing outside her litter box i have not changed her litter or the spot that it has been in since i got her at 6 weeks old the vet said there is nothing wrong with her health wise, i thought maybe she had a urinary infection, is there any reason she is doing this now she NEVER peed in the house before and now since i have had her spayed she is doing this i will put her in her litter box when i see her peeing and she will run out and go back to peeing in the house, what could be the problem i am a first time cat owner any advice will be greatly appreciated thanks!!

Sabrina's Mom,

I took your questions out of the other thread and started a new thread just for you.

I am glad that the vet checked her for a urinary tract infection. That would be my first guess.

My second guess is that when she was in pain from the surgery she probably felt the most pain when pottying. But, instead of realizing that it is pottying that caused the pain, she thought it was the litterbox which caused her pain. Therefore, I suggest that you go out and buy a brand new litterbox and set it up in a slightly different place than her current box. Once she starts using the new box regularly, you can shift it to where you want it by moving it about one foot a day in that direction.

Also, please click here for many other ideas on how to stop this behavior.

Good luck!

How exciting! I'm glad that worked.

Make sure you use an enzymatic cleanser to remove the smell from all of her old pee spots. You might want to buy a flourescent black light and when it gets dark tonight, shine the light all over the house to find any old pee spots you didn't know about (urine glows in black light). If you don't remove the smell from old pee spots, she may decide to use those old spots again in the future.
