One of my cats stays in my room. She has plenty of places to climb and has always been very healthy. She's 8 years old. Whenever my mom comes to visit in my room, she uses the litterbox. I joke that she's a cat laxative. This is nearly daily occurence. She does this no matter how many times or when she used the litterbox last. She loves my mom and all people for that matter, and doesn't do this when anyone else enters the room. Why?

Did your mom repeatedly put your cat in the litter box when it was a kitten? I wonder, like the post above, that your cat may be associating your mother with the box from her kitten days. (although I'm sure your mom is not flattered being associated with the litter box!
)It may be like when I use the can opener all the cats come running. They associate food with the noise. This is really a strange occurrence, I would really like to know why too!

I forgot that I made this post for a while, because when my data is being throttled, I can't load most sites. My mom never put her in the litterbox as a kitten. We adopted her for me when she was 8 months old from a rescue (I was there). She was a stray. She rode home in a cardboard box that they stuffed her in (poor kitty), was put in my room, and that was that. I since got her all sorts of things to keep her happy, and even walk her on leash sometimes. I really have no idea why she does this lol. I will say, my mom often leaves when she does it, at least when it's a poop not just a pee. The smell drives her off. Maybe she wants her to leave? But she demands attention from her like anyone else. I figure it is an association like you're saying, but I wonder what.
