I hope everyone had a good weekend!  It's still really hot here; but we've got to be getting closer to the season change!  I've been breaking the rules and watering my gardens after dark.  In the dark; with a flashlight.
  Some of the last few nights it hasn't gotten out of the 80s!  We've been staying inside in the air conditioning as much as possible!  My DD has gotten sick twice in the last week; the morning after we had been out in the heat the day before.  I felt so bad; I had to take Mooch to the vet in this heat too.  Fortunately her carrier sits on the front seat so she can feel the air too.

How tall are you?  Are you similar in height to your family members?

I am 5'5".  I'm in the middle of all my family members height wise.  Mom is shorter; Dad is taller. My Dad had to have gotten his height (just over 6') from his father.  My Grandmother is about 5'1".  From looking at old family photos I realized my Great-Grandparents were both about the same height as my Grandma!  Her sisters were all about the same height too.  Only one brother was taller; but still not tall for a man by today's standards.  I don't think any of the cousin's from that side qualify as short either.  So my guess is that improve nutrition in our childhoods has helped us grow taller.  My Great-Grandparents were immigrants and they worked hard but lived fairly comfortably once they came to the States.  But they also had a large family to care for.

On the other side of my family I'm close to the average.  My Mom is the shortest and a few people are close to or over 6'; but most of us are in the 5'5" to 58" range.  I don't see any generational differences in height on that side like I do on my Dad's.

I'm fully expecting my own kids to outgrow me though.  They both get mistaken for being older than they are.
  DD is in the 90/95th percentile for height for her age.
  She's going to be taller than the boys for a long time.
  Good!

I'm 5 ft.  Mom was about 5'2". Dad was about 5'8". My brothers:  each at least 6 ft. What happened??!?? LOL  The funny thing: when I was born, I was the longest and heaviest. I grew fast, and my parents thought I would be unusually tall for a woman, around 6 ft. I feel cheated.

For years I was 5.5-1/2. Somewhere along the line, my spine has compressed and I'm now down to 5.4. I've got fairly long legs for my height, though and I hope I manage to keep them. My sister and I are now about the same height...I might be 1/2 inch taller.....maybe. My brother is taller, probably around 5.10 or so.

Mom was always short and Daddy was taller. Rick is about 5.10 and our son comes in around 6.4 or so; he towers over everybody. He was a football player in high school and did some serious weight-lifting, so he was a big boy. When he would tease me about something, I would have to reach up and grab his shirt collar to pull him down to my height, just so I could tap his jaw.....we were joking around, I swear; I never really hit him. But people used to laugh when I'd say, "Hey (son)! Come down here a minute, will you? Just so I can smack you up alongside the head!" Because otherwise I couldn't reach him.

A few years back, son and I were running around town. We ran into a co-worker and I introduced him to my son. Co-worker is a little on the short side, so he had to look up to talk to son. He looked at son, looked at me, and said, "Honest to God, Pam, I will never, ever pick on you again! I'm afraid you'll sic your son on me!"
  Son still does some serious weight-lifting and he's still a big man. It's not fat, though (well, some of it is now
 )

I am 5' 2" tall. My dad and mother both were short people. The kids didn't stand a chance of being tall.

I'm 5'6" (167 cm; it used to be 168 cm, but I've shrunk with age). My sister is a shade under 6'. Our mother was 5'4", and our father 6'. Our female cousins are both first and second cousins (brothers married first cousins) and are about my height. My sister's daughters are 5'3"/5'4", but the boys are over 6', despite their father having only been 5'5"".

I used to be 5'4", but now I am 5'2" because I have degenerative disc disease. I am on medication, so I hope I don't get shorter. My family is all on the short side. Mother was about my height, and Dad about 5'6". One son is about 5'8" and the other about 5'6". On my husband's side, there were some very short people, under 5 feet, so my sons got a lot of short genes.

I'm 5'4". My mom is 5'2" and my dad is 6'5" (or was before he got old ;)). So I didn't get much of his height. My brothers are 6'3" and 6'4", so I guess they got it all :lol3:.

Here's the funniest thing---my grandma has 10 biological grandchildren; 5 girls and 5 boys. I'm the tallest of the girls. The shortest boy is 6'2". It's not fair!!! One of my girl cousins is 4'9" and her brother is 6'3". She's mad that he got all the tall in the family. At least I'm not that short, lol.

My niece and nephew (belonging to my brother who is 6'4") are huge. My nephew will be 11 in October, and he's already 5'2". My niece will be 9 in November and is already 4'9". If they keep this up I can't even guess how tall they'll be :eek:. They're taller than either of my brothers were at those ages.

I'm 5'-0". We're all short in my family, although I am one of the shortest.  Pretty sure my brother isn't even 5'6".

I'm 5'4". My mom is 5'7" & I'm not sure about my dad, I think he's not much taller than me. We seem to be about the same hight these days. He's a short plump Italian. LOL! My sister is taller than me, even though she's 3 yrs younger.
Both my neice & nephew are taller than me. My nephew is 6'4" I think, so I joke & say, " just call me aunt shorty!" :lol3:

I'm 5'9" the same as my mother was. She's 93 now and shrunk quite a lot. My father was 5'11" and my sister is 5'7".She has two children. Her daughter is 5'8" and son 6'3". Their father is 5'9". Her son must have been stretched.

My Uncle is about 6' and my Gram was about 5'6"-5'7"; so not a huge difference; but he sure thought he was something.  He was a handful as a teenager and tried to pull a "I'm bigger than you; you can't discipline me anymore" type routine.  Gram got the broom and said "The broom will always reach you!".
  Everyone laughed and laughed talking about all my uncles antics from his rebellious years!  Including my uncle!

It's funny how that works out isn't it?  I found an online height prediction calculator when my kids were younger.  They had my daughter coming in around 5'7" and my son around 6' I think.  But DD is 4'2" as of last spring and she's only 6.  I wouldn't be too surprised if she ends up as tall as or taller than her brother.  DS is much more average for his age.  but who knows.  My dad was 6' tall at age 12 and didn't put on that extra inch until adulthood.  Which REALLY makes no sense!
  My Dad just laughs and says "I thought you were supposed to shrink as you age; not stretch!"  But he grew...

My mom was 5'nothing", although she would claim an extra inch.  She lied.  Dad was 6'4"  All of Mom's family are on the short side.  All of Dad's are on the tall side.  His grandfather was 7' tall in a time when the average height for men was 5'7".  I, myself WAS 5'7", but I've shrunk an inch.  I had them check the last time I went for a check-up.  My elder son is 6'9.5", and my younger son is 6'3".

I'm 5'7 - Technically I was supposed to be taller, as explained by my doctors. Thanks congenital kidney disease for stunting my growth
 I admit, for some reason I always wished I was a little taller, but otherwise it is definitely not worth complaining about.

My dad is just a bit taller, and my mother a bit shorter. Altogether I'm not really from a crazy tall family, averaging around 5'0-5'8 for the women and 5'8-5'10 for the men for those who are 45+. My cousins on the other hand, anyone from 35 and below, average around 5'8-5'10 for girls and 5'9-5'10+ for the boys. What can I say, one side were poor Irish folks, the other side Finnish folks dealing with invasions and wars. At least the latest generation is catching up thanks to obvious reasons (Unless you are me with the crazy deformed tinkle organs
)

My mom's 2 oldest brothers (who aren't tall, maybe 5'7" or so) were apparently tiny in high school, and came home from boot camp having grown several inches. Which seems like the wrong age for a growth spurt! :dk:

I'm in the middle in my family. My mum is 4'11-1/2", dad is 6'1" and I'm 5'4-1/2". Mum's side of the family are all short - her sister is 4'8" or 9" and her brother is around 5'4" or 5" I believe. Dad's brother is shorter than him, but not by a lot.

I'm 5'3 and used to be 5'5. I shrunk 2 inches as I've grown older. I am now 66 years old. My mother and sister are about the same height and my brother used to be 6'00 but he has shrunk with age, too.
