Hello guys.  Long time no chat.  It's been a rough year.  ^^;  I had a lead inserted in my back, and batteries in my left glut, and it got infected at the beginning of this year.  I spent Christmas through New Years at the hospital and briefly slid into a coma.  Now I have two HUGE scars and an interesting story.

Anyhow, I'm not the one doing the licking of wounds.  =P  My cat, Jinx, has a couple of sores that the vet thinks are caused by allergy, and they don't go away.  I just noticed that he's been licking at them, because he left blood behind on the pillow he likes to sit on.  Since they don't go away, I don't think an E collar would be a good choice.  Maybe bandages.  What I was hoping for, though, was if you guys know of any products that would stop the licking, but not make my kitty sick.  I'm very worried about infection if the licking keeps up.

Thanks in advance!

So sorry you've had so many health issues to deal with!

Many pet stores sell some version of a bitter apple spray/bitter tasting spray that doesn't hurt them. You just have to be careful when you spray it that it doesn't get near their eyes, because I've noticed that stuff does hang in the air a bit. As for how well it works, I think that depends on the cat. It deterred my cat from chewing on certain plants, but I'm not sure if it was the taste or the act of me spraying them that did it. If I used it again or on her I'd probably pour some onto a cotton ball and dab it on, because the spraying scares her.

Do not use anything with citrus oils that are found in the peel of citrus fruits, because that can be toxic to cats.

I hope you figure out the allergy mystery! That is not fun to deal with.

Hmm.  We'll try PetCo, then.  There's one right by us, maybe they have something.  So nothing with oranges, or.... well, basically oranges are the only citrus fruit I know.  ^^;  And you're correct about the spraying, that's what I use to discipline them.  A little air canister.  Usually just me brandishing it does the trick.  I'll apply whatever I get with a cotton swab.  Also, the vet said that if we did tests, there could be hundreds of things listed, so my dad decided not to do it.  I regret that now.  Next time, I want to know, even if I DO have to go through a hundred items!

Thanks for the sympathy.  ^_^  The worst part was being away from my cats for so long.  I missed them soooooo much!  And my poor little Molly was so depressed!  When I got home, her head was hanging, and she hardly looked up.  She was curled on my pants.  Molly is the beautiful white kitty in my picture.  She's my baby girl.  Oddly enough, the only fun I had was the coma.  I was in a dream state for three days, and the dreams were so vivid!
