Is my Cat Losing Too Much Hair?

My cat, Jinx, gets brushed everyday. Because my parents dislike rough hair on the furniture. Recently, after brushing her twice a day, I've collected a baseball size ball of brushed fur. Slightly compacted fur, not all fluffy. I run the brush through her fur fifteen times and its completely full! I get that that's normal for long haired cats, but Jinx is short fur! She's not like a main coon or anything. I get it's hot out, but this hasn't ever happened before. And, she hasn't been outside!

How old is Jinx and is that your first summer with her? I wonder if it's a seasonal thing that you're going to see every summer.

I would bet it is normal. Cats still shed even though they aren't exposed to the weather, it's like leaves turning because of the season and where the sun is, not cold weather. Cats outside will develop heavier coats though, theirs can have something to do with the temperature. If your little one seems healthy, is eating and playing, I wouldn't worry about it, check with your vet the next time you are in. Excessive loss can be caused by too many things to diagnose, from diet to stress. Be observant and see if it diminishes as the season changes, it will get better if it is normal loss. All the luck!

She has access to dry all day, gets wet in the morning and night.

I agree with @Di and Bob, this could be perfectly natural. Unless you're seeing any bald spots, I would just keep brushing (gently) and keeping an eye on her.
