My cat is 1 year & 8 months old. He loves to eat so much that the vet said he is a big overweight for his proportion. I usually fed him a can of avoderm in the morning & evening and left some dry food for lunch & before i went to sleep. The thing is he likes to finish the food I left for him in one go. After a few hours, he'll want to eat again & if he finds his bowl is eampy, he will start to ransacked the kitchen and eat anything he could find including plastic & other foreign stuff. I usually fed him in the morning at 7.30am but i woke up an hour late yesterday & I think he had swollowed something he shouldn't have again and today he was coughing a little in the morning. (Mind you, we already had several emergency trips to the vet for the same reason).

Apart from the throwing up & a bit coughing, he seems fine though, he's appetite is as per usual, he poops well, and had been walkig around bullying his little brother as usual. I don't know if I should be worrying. I vacuum my house twice a day & try my best to keep everything inside the drawers & i couldnt find anything that he could have swollowed, but still uou know.

Oh and does anybody has any experience with this kind of over eating problem? The vet prescribed him a diet dry food but it doesnt matter how much i leave the food in the bowl, he will sill finish it all in one sitting.

How is he now?  If you rally think he ate something he sholdn't, the only real way to know is to get an xray done, but if he's not showing any signs of problems, and you can't find anything missing, then I don't know if you want to take him in.  It's a difficult situation.

As far as getting him to stop, and getting him to lose weight, maybe you could check the Behavior Forum to see if it's a behavior issue.  Perhaps this article is a place to start:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/how-to-stop-problem-chewing-in-cats

I know we had a pudgy cat, and the only way we ever got him to lose weight was to pull up all the dry food and only feed him wet, but he wasn't one to eat other things (except cardboard boxes), so that wasn't a problem.  Once you figure out THAT issue, then maybe we can address his diet issues.

He was fine yesterday. He was eating well, even ate his brother food, and poop like he normally did too. So i thought he was fine until this morning around 4am I was awoken by the sound of him coughing(?)& thats when i kinda realized his stomach is a bit bloated. There's no emergency clinic around we could go at 4am. Most clinics open at 11am and I had to get to work. Stayed around with him until 8.30am before I left to work. He ate his breakfast well, and he did pooped like usual too. Im going to take him to vet as soon as i get off work but im so worried right now. I know i should just skip work & go to the vet in the morning but then i also have commitment to work (been skipping few times because of him, & my boss warent that happy that Im keep taking half days off because of my cat). Well you know, no work means no money to pay for his medical bills.

Btw, I had one suspicious though. I bought this cat grass (in a flower pot) for them to play around & Olaf kinda like to pushed the flower pot to the floor & cause the sand (?)from the cat grass pot to spread around the floor. It was on the floor that morning when I was checking out what he coul possibly had eaten. How dengerous do you think it will it be if he had swollowed some of the sand?
