Ok I had two female cats that were pregnant. They ended up having their litters a week apart. The first-time mom took good care of her kittens for about a week when she kept moving them all over the house and not feeding them. So we took the kittens and put them with the more experienced mom and she adopted them right away.
Well within the past couple of days we have noticed the younger kittens all have inflamed anuses and soft stool. They are 6 weeks old today. They all have healthy appetites and are otherwise happy and playful. I called my vet to see if I could give them a little wormer with their kitten chow and she said yes. They have an appt to see her in two weeks but what should I do in the meantime to make them more comfortable cause they are very sore down there.

A tiny dab of a good quality veggie oil on their bottoms will ease the discomfort.  Do it a few times a day.  A DAB, just a dab.

I will get veggie oil tomorrow. Could I use petroleum jelly tonight?

You can use olive oil, cocoanut oil, or Udder Balm. A dab of petroleum jelly won't hurt for tonight.

You may want to get the kittens seen sooner. Soft stools are not normal in 6-week-olds. They may need an antibiotic to cure a bacterial infection, or a different type of med for parasites (different from worms).

They really should get treated sooner than 2 weeks for this. Is it diarrhea? What color?

You can mix a teaspoon of plain, canned pumpkin into their wet food in the meantime. It helps to firm up soft stool, but will not solve the underlying problem.

I hope their bottoms feel better soon!

In the meantime and since being longhaired the sport stool is getting in their due and otherwise making a mess I have been washing their butts tails and back legs in warm water and dawn in the morning and using baby wipes to keep them clean during the day. Is this ok?

Baby wipes contain alcohol and will irritate sore bottoms. Best to use a warm cloth to clean their bottoms at all times. Did you pick up oil yet?

There is nothing quite like getting out of an unwanted or too-long phone call by saying, "Excuse me, but I have to go oil my kittens' fannies."  SO glad that is helping.
