Hi,

My cat has stopped eating today. We took him to the vet yesterday morning. He got two jabs, one to clear acid from his system the other to remove nausea. He then ate loads yesterday. After eating a small amount this morning he has stopped again. HE is still drinking but has had a bit of Diarrhoea today.

He is 12 years old. Has anybody experienced this before?

Regards,

Mark

Did they do blood tests while he was at the Vet yesterday?  What they did sounds like it was just a bandaid,, not a "cure".  They need to diagnose the issue that was causing his nausea because it sounds like perhaps it's back again.  At age 12, it could be many things that older cats get.  With the suspected over acidity and nausea, the first thing that comes to mind is kidney problems.  I only say this because I've had 3 kidney cats
But, of course, that isn't necessarily the issue at all.  It could be anything.  Could be a 24 hour "bug".  Could be he's just having a bad weekend.  I don't know his history at all.  Could be that since he ate so much yesterday, he got himself in a bit of a mess and now his bowels are in a turmoil so he instinctively knows to slow it down.  Sorry I can't be more definitive, but it's just impossible to say. what it is.  But, yes, many of us have experienced what you are
He may need a complete physical with blood tests if he didn't get one.

I am thinking along the same lines as @mrsgreenjeens, also only because I've had a kidney kitty. I would ask the vet about doing a senior blood panel and checking her BUN & creatinine levels, which are markers for kidney issues.  Also ask the vet about a daily dose of Pepcid to help settle the tummy and help your kitty want to eat.

Any time a kitty doesn't eat, it means they aren't feeling well.

Kidney issues and/or pancreatitis can cause nausea in kitties. I would have them run blood work to rule out both of these.

There are anti nauseant meds, B-12 shots can also stimulate appetite, and lots of other things. Also try switching foods--cats develop food aversions like people---a food that she/he ate when feeling nauseated will make them sick if they smell it. I've had this with my two after a lengthy bout of pancreatitis.

Hugs to you!!!

Thanks for your advice all. I am taking him back to the vets this afternoon. Woke up this morning (UK time) and he wanted a drink of water and licked some cat treats. Again in himself he looks fine. Hope the vet can help!

Good luck to you! I hope it's something simple to diagnose and treat!
