My 3 month old kitten sustained an eye injury playing with his 5 other litter mates. It seemed minor at first and after some googling I realized it was most likely a corneal ulcer. We took him in to the vet and my suspicions were confirmed. He had an ulcer. We were given an antibacterial eye cream to put in his bad eye twice a day, for ten days. We went on vacation and had a friend who is a vets assistant take care of him. He was worse by the time we came back and took him in to the vets once again. We were given the same eye cream to be given twice a day and lysine supplements to give him twice a day also. Since then, it has seemed the same. Lots of liquid drips from the eye and poor Kat never opens it. I have seen him open it once. He is very lethargic which is a major change because he used to be the most playful of all 6 kittens. You can tell he is in a lot of pain, but I feel helpless to reduce it. Is there anything I can do to help?

Is there another vet you can take the kitten to? Some vets are just more experienced than others, just like Human doctors, so it may take going to a few vets to get your kitten the treatment he needs. A veterinary ophthalmologist would be best for to treat the eye issue. If you're in the US, you can use the directory here: http://www.acvo.org/new/public/locate.shtml You can also Google for vet ophthalmologists or vet eye specialists in your area.

Ask the vet for pain medicine. There are different ones for cats and only the vet will be able to prescribe the right one. Never ever use Human pain medicines of any kind because they can be toxic.

Unfortunately, there are no other vets in the area. Also, we cannot afford to take him into the eye specialist. Lately, he has developed some swelling and a yellow bubble on his eye.

Go back to the vet and ask for idoxuride drops.  It's possible that he will need to have his eye removed. If that happens, he will be okay, just have one eye.

How much does the procedure to take out the eye cost? And also what do those drops do?

The cost of the procedure will vary from clinic to clinic.  The drops are used to treat eye ulcers.
