I have always added a lot of water to my cats' canned food. Looking over threads it seems I add more than most people (Make it look like chunky soup). Is that a problem? Should I add less?

I add quite a bit of water to one of my cats food also. Not all of mine like it quite so soupy.

How do your cats like it? Do they eat it and are they healthy & happy?

Tbh, I've wondered if there is a "too much" also.

Whatever works for your cat
Some cats will only tolerate a spoonful of water, if that. Others will happily lap up soup. Any extra water the body doesn't need will just come out as urine (reasonable amounts of water in the diet, not gallons of water).

I do add around about 2 teaspoon or so of water to my boy's wet food. That is to get the rest of the remaining food and some gravy left in the can and also make sure he have enough water as he dosen't drink very much though he goes to the tap and have some sips of water or I'll fill up his water bowl and he'll just take some sips and go away.
But I don't make his wet food like it is soupy.

We've always added two tablespoons of filtered water to our cats' food (6 tablespoons total each day). I read somewhere that a cat should drink 20+ tablespoons of water per day. That seems like a lot, but if you're feeding wet food like we are, most of that water content is already in the food. Just a helpful reminder for those who feed dry food. Oh and she pees anywhere between 3-5 times a day.

I think dry food is better for teeth and breath

I add water to my guy's wet food.

As LTS3 has stated, whatever works, just keep on doing it and do not worry...

If your cat is healthy--then go for it!!

I add water to my little guys food. He it's it faster than if I don't add water, usually in one sitting, rather than over a few hours, which I prefer. Plus I figure it ensures he's drinking enough water since he also gets dry food. I imagine it's hard to overdose your cat on water.

My cats will only tolerate a certain amount of water added to their wet food and I try to hit the tolerable amount, especially in the summer. Seems to be about an added 2 tablespoons. Even when it's really hot outside my outdoor cats do not drink water from a water bowl, and they get little to no dry food in the summer. So that's the only way I can make sure they are getting at least some water. I only give them about 10 dry kibbles on top of the wet food just to get them to eat it. I don't like to give them dry, it's not good for them according to all I've read on the Internet. It doesn't keep their teeth clean, I can attest to that with my vet bills for dental work! They only get Natural Balance Litmited Ingredient for a dry food.

They are healthy and many of my friends say their cat prefers toilet water

Awwww.........come on. It's totally unhealthy for them to drink out of the toilet bowl. All the human poop and pee and germs and bacteria are there even though it's flushed. Please don't let your cat do that! :nono:
