I have a 7 month old kitten, and after spending close to $2000 on vet bills with my last cat I'm seriously considering getting pet insurence. I've looked at a few quotes already, does anybody have some experience with pet insurance and could let me know which is the best plan/company? He is 7 months, manx (from a breeder) with no preexisting health conditions, has never had surgery besides his neuter.

healthypaws pet insurance has great reviews.  I'm looking to get insurance for my cats.  My Basil is 13 and at his age the most I can be reimbursed is 70%.  I lost two of my senior cats within a year of each other (one to CHF and one to CRF) and the vet bills got very high.  I definitely regret not having gotten them insurance when they were younger and before they became ill.

I think you should read about healthypaws insurance.  For young cats, you can choose your deductible level and reimbursement level.

Here is a good link that looks at the top 10 best pet insurance:

That's a great topic. Let us know what you end up doing?

Personally, I feel that it's best to "self-insure". Basically, putting aside a certain sum of money each month for potential veterinary needs. The way I see it, insurance companies know the statistics and create plans where they make money. Usually quite a bit of money. So, if you put aside the same amount of money you would for your plan, chances are that would be more than enough to cover you in case of emergency (considering deductibles etc). Then, if you never have to spend the money in your cat's lifetime, you're left with the remaining savings.

I did some research about pet insurance when my mom got her new kitten last year. I found a very interesting blog about a couple who chose to open a special account for their cat, and deposit $20 a month (the same fee as pet insurance). She said by the time kitty needed medical help, they had the money in that account. She said that it was the best choice they'd ever made since many pet insurances stop coverage when the cat gets to be a certain age, and they don't cover all things (like car insurance, there is a deductible amount).

Just a thought :)
