I first want to say again thank you for all the great advice......  Romeo is 13 year old white Persian.  At 2 years old got diagnosis with the Herpes Virus which almost lost him then , that's a sneaky virus got him under control with that.  He would have flare-ups with Corneal Ulcers also too which are very painful.  Then this happened.!  Im still feeling guilty that I didn't catch this. Now with diagnosis of Pancreatitis and Poly cystic Kidney Disease which they said he had a pretty significant case is another chapter.  I kinda know that with Kidney disease you have to watch proteins and fat for pancreatitis.  But I go to the Vet this Monday to see what the next step is.  Does anyone know should I be giving him his Reglan if he is not throwing up?  He is taking his syringe feeding pretty well and is drinking not as much.  I think maybe some of the water drinking maybe could have been pain? It really pains me that my little man was hurting and I didn't have a clue.  I also want to apologize I am new to this site and may stumble until I learn how this site works but I am sure glad I found it.  Thanks to Forum and all good blessings to your Furry Babies

I am SO sorry you are having to deal with all of this!

Now, just a side note--upon my cat's second bout with pancreatitis, (I'm on their 3rd right now--hopefully coming to the tail end), their kidney values showed elevation in the creatin-however,  they did say and friends of mine, who are vet techs etc, said that pancreatitis can cause elevation of creatin levels.

So, once pancreatitis has passed, I would urge you to get blood checked again--I did for this 3rd round of pancreatitis (to confirm it) and BOTH my kitties kidney values are normal!!! I have started to feed them a hypo allergenic and kidney diet and they love the food :)

Also, talk to your vet about B-12 shots--just started this with my boy, who also suffers from megacolon, and what a difference it makes! He's a bit under the weather today after a rough morning clearing out his colon, but he's eating and being cute--just sleeping a lot.

I hate pancreatitis. It's horrid. My first kitties never had it, and like you, I agonize that I missed the signs.

So, we can pat ourselves on teh back and say that although we missed the signs, we are tending to them now.

Hugs to your Romeo! My mom had a white persian, her name was Tiffany. She was a pure white doll faced Persian. We lost her last year---she had a grade 4 heart murmur and sadly went into congestive heart failure. It was horribly fast and we were heartbroken. But, mom did find something small and hyper to help her mend :)

Hello Dark horse321, Just a quick note to thank you for all information and well wishes. I am definitely going to ask my vet about b12 shots. He is doing pretty good this morning, I think I've created a little monster he actually likes being feed with a syringe=. Do you think I should be giving him his Reglan since he has not threw up in 5 days. The vet I was seeing was pretty vague plus I was put in a emergency case and he was pushed for time. My vet had a very bad stroke and we will have to choose a new vet and Dr.Penny was sò good. Anyway close for now have to go to work. Bless you and hugs and kisses to your fur babies. What is a mega colon that sounds very painful. Can you tell me the food your kitties like . I have to find Romeo some kinda dry food he is not a big lover a science diet recipes. Better go work awaits. Thank you again you just don't know how much finding new friends has meant alot to this old cat lady.

I've got a ton of foods to help my kitties eat!

The kidney diet is both for kidney disease (it doesn't stop the disese, it slows it down, but check with your vet first as each kitty is different) and it's also hypoallergenic:

the wet food is Hill's prescription diet k/d (Comes in various flavors) Must get at vet clinic

the hard food is Royal Canin 'multifunction' renal/hypoallergenic hard food. Again, from vet clinic.

I hope that helps!

Megacolon is chronic constipation basically. So, my boy is on many meds to help him poop--the lower bowel doesn't contract properly so he's on motility drugs--took him off stool softeners since he's been having pancreatitis and loose stool.

Take care and chat later! I'm off to work the evening :)
