Kitten at Work

There is a feral cat clowder that lives up by my work. They fish in trash cans, get fed by customers and people who live in the trailer park behind the store, and someone has taken almost all of the adults up to the shelter to be TNR'd. (I know because the shelter here notches the ears of the strays they've fixed and there are only one or two of the adults that don't have the ear notches.) There are also a few kittens (probably born before the cats were rounded up) and one of the kittens seems to be interested in me. When I'm working by a door (the only section with floor to ceiling windows) the kitten will sit there and watch me work, and will move between doors (there's one on each side of the building) to try and keep me in sight. Now, this is  a feral cat--it will not let humans (any humans, not even me) near it. This is not  a domesticated animal. That said, when I leave work it paces me to the car (keeping half of the parking lot between it and me) and then will dart around the car (after I get in--I wait a minute to let it get past) and then watches me leave.

Here's my question: is there something I'm supposed to do here? I can't take it home (even if it was tame) because I have five cats at home. (Rose, Princess, Ra, Spot, and Asia.) But at the same time, I feel like the kitten is trying to reach out to me for--something. (I've only had cats for a couple of years and my experience with them previous to that was primarily in getting attacked by cats, so this is all new to me.) I'm sorry if that sounds like a stupid question.

First of all, there are no stupid questions.  How else can you learn?

Perhaps the kitten is trying to tell you she needs an inside home.  Not yours, of course, but are there other options for you?  Someone you know need a kitty?  Is there a rescue that might help?

These are only suggestions.  At the very least, she will need to be spayed.  Perhaps you can assist the kind person who has already done so much of the TNR by taking this one in yourself.

Maybe you could try to track him/her down and see what other support they might need.

If you sense that kitty is reaching out to you, if you asked me, I would say, it is. Animals are SUPER, SO MUCH just like people its amazing. It likes you and has now shown it. Do you have a shelter in your area?

I have no idea who did the TNR; could have been someone living in the trailer park behind the store or someone who works (or even worked) for the store. There is a shelter in the area, but they have no room, a waiting list a mile long, and animals are being adopted out at half (quarter for kittens and puppies) price for the foreseeable future, just to make room for more animals.

Best to get them all on the mile long waiting list. When their time comes, they'll be glad you did! At this time, there seems not much else you could do.

Okay, the kittens (including the one that's been shadowing me) have vanished. I think  that since they're large enough now (I don't know how old they really are) they've been taken by the person doing TNR.
