Does anyone else have a cat with short hair that sheds a lot?

My cat is about 2 1/2 he seems to shed a lot. I don't know if cats shed more during the summer or something. I haven't changed his diet at all so I'm pretty sure it isn't allergy related. He always gets his blood checked for everything during his yearly checkup which was recently and that was fine to. So I'm just trying to see if I'm OCD about getting a decent amount of fur on my hands whenever I pet my cat if its normal or abnormal. I also notice fur on my keyboard and mouse pad whenever I come home also. He doesn't have any patches missing or anything. I come him every once in a while but he thinks of the brush as a toy, and I'm always worried about over brushing him and taking out to much fur.

LOLOL!  OH MY YES!  I empty my vacuum cleaner after every use, and each time I use it, it completely fills the dirt catcher!  Most of that is cat hair.  I changed the AC filter at the first of the month, and there is already enough cat hair on it to reupholster a litter of kittens or a medium sized dog.  IN my house, cat hair is a condiment!

I have to laugh, too. Mingo is my fur distributor. I've just gotten used to it. Like Mamanyt1953, I have to empty the vacuum cleaner every two rooms. I've started brushing him more, and that seems to help a little. For a couple of hours. There are clouds of black fur everywhere. Sometimes in my food, no joke, and always in my library books. It sticks to everything; I can't always get it out of the books.

To answer your question, yes, it's normal for some cats, and you won't brush out too much. He will just grow more. I have another cat, and she sheds some, but nothing like Mingo does.

Love that betta, BTW.

OMG yes. My catsitter told me that on the last day she was here, two handfuls of hair came off Pierre when she brushed him. I still had to brush him the next day and got another handful. I had to get my laptop keyboard replaced because of all the hair under it!!!   How do people with long haired cats manage, I wonder?

It's pretty normal for short hair cat to shed. My boy is a DSH and I vacuum the floor every other day and at the end I get a little ball of fur and like what Laura Mae said, you can make another cat with his fur. But boy, she must have a huge cat! :lol3:
My boy waits to be brushed every morning before his meal. Yes, unless your kitty suddenly show random bare spots and that warrants a concern. Just use a soft short bristle brush and brush gently.
