Little scabs on the back of my cats neck.

My cat who's a indoor, 10 year old, with no fleas, has these little scabs the size of a pen head (yes pen not pin lol) in a couple of spots on her neck for a month or so now. They don't seem to bother her, in fact she rather likes when I monkey pick at them. I just can't seem to figure out why these scabs are there and why they haven't gone away, she hasn't got hurt that I know of and she doesn't scratch there an exuberant amount. Anyone have any idea what this might be?

Does she wear a collar, or a flea collar, or have you recently (a month ago or so) changed her food?  Any of these could be the culprit.

Hey GreenJeens thanks for the reply, unfortunately the answer to those questions are no, no and no. That's what's so confusing and worries me about these scabs, there's nothing I can think of that's changed in our routine to cause them.

AH HA!!
That's something that has actually changed, I've changed from the Arm and Hammer to the new lighter (non-clay) Fresh Step. Though I'm not 100% sure these scabs weren't there before the litter change, that is something I didn't consider having an effect. Do you really think that could cause these scabs on the back of her neck?

Yes it can because she might be allergic to one of the ingredients.  You can try switching to your old litter and see if that helps, or change to an all all-natural type litter such as World's Best or something similar.

Wouldn't an allergy cause a larger reaction than just a couple spots on her neck?

Not necessarily, especially if you caught it early.  It really depends on the cat.

I'm still not 100% sure that these scabs weren't there before the litter change, however you have a good point and I'll try to get some different litter and change her box to see if that clears it up thanks for the input.

That is exactly what happened to Midi when I changed his litter. I think it was the perfume in the new brand. I since switched to a non scented brand and it went away
