Ok so before this sounds weird, I know it is supposed to smell. But in comparison to other cats, his smells a lot. Whenever I'm petting him and he turns his back it stinks, even from almost 1 meter distance. This does not happen with his mother or brother.

He eats same things as his brother and licks his back more than his brother. The hole is light pink with nothing stuck on it when it stinks and I've checked if there's something stuck to his fur but no, other than some what appears to be sweat on the pink part. I might take him to the vet because I am worried a bit, but not extremely worried yet. Could it be because of intestinal parasites? Or anal glands? I also have to mention he is the "dominant" 3 months old male in our household, he always beats his brother in play fighting and wins with ease. Could that play a role? He is not neutered yet. I am just trying to isolate some cause to know whether I should be worried or not.

Opinions?

Hey rogue,

Thanks for your reply. Actually he is going to get neutered after he is 5 months+ old, so that is sometime in october :p

Can you get him neutered now? It sounds like it is time.

I would take him in for a check at his anal glands.. and to make the appointment for neutering..now...

The problem is the vets won't do it for young kittens in my area, I am not sure why. I am not in the States. The minimun age for neutering is 5 months, but they still recommend 5+ like 6 or 7 :(

How would the discharge of anal glands look? Is it transparent like sweat? Or does it have a color? I've found mixed comments on google and I am not sure.

Is it possible that he is just making himself smell on purpose to mark territory? If that's the case then neutering can wait (not that I have another choice). The smell is not bothering me that much, I am worried about some potential medical condition.

You shouldn't be seeing anything that looks like sweat on his anus.  I think a vet visit is in order.

Yeah I guess so. I'll make an appointment after the weekend just in case. Better safe than sorry even though I am not alarmed yet but it definitely is odd.

Is the odor 'skunky'? If so, that's anal glands. Cats will express them with a large bowel movement. Like it's not from him being at an age of maturity. Most vets won't neuter a male cat until 5 months--my boy was six months when he got fixed (and so was his sister).  My moms cat had issues with her anal glands and the vet would express them. Hope that helps--but seeing your vet would be a good idea. Anything that smells 'off' is always good to make note of.
