I was actually just going to make a rainbow bridge post about this, but this morning I woke up to a barrage of texts that the cat had been found! Over three weeks ago, two days after I left for my big cross country move to graduate school, I got the news that my childhood cat and buddy James Bond was missing. My dad had come with me to help me move and we're his two favorite people (admittedly I had slipped in hierarchy since I abandoned him to go to undergraduate school), and my mom and my brother were taking care of him as well as our other cat and dog. They couldn't find Bond anywhere in the house and they couldn't find him anywhere outside. We were all so upset. Bond's not an outdoor cat at all, he's never been outside more than a day in his life. He's eleven years old, a tubby grey tabby, who loves lounging on all the furniture, batting at pens while people are writing, and snuggling on his watch.

On Christmas!

Sorry for the photo spam, I've just been really upset looking at all of the pictures on my phone of him the past few weeks and I'm so happy to share them again.

Anyway, my family hung up signs, called the shelter, and kept looking for him. After over three weeks, everyone was kind of losing hope. However last night my brother heard meowing and went out to look! Bond was under our deck, a place they'd previously looked, and my dad helped coax him out. Apparently my brother had been hearing meowing for the past two nights but every time he went out to look, he couldn't find anything. He's soo happy to be home! He's rubbing up on people and snuggling with my dad (his person) watching tv.

The thing is, he definitely doesn't look like he was outside for over three weeks. He's a little bit trimmer but not overweight, and his fur is dusty but still soft and silky. He's not injured (we have some outdoor cats that stalk through our backyard and have caused marking problems in our cats! I was wonder if one of them chased him away) and he doesn't have fleas or ticks. He seems a little rattled but happy enough to snuggle with everyone, and ate immediately. With the three hour time difference it's the middle of the night where my family is, so I'm going to try to get more information and better pictures when they're up. I'm thinking it's a good idea to take him in for a vet check-up. I just don't know what happened to him though! Maybe someone was feeding him and taking care of him? When we first moved in, we had some mouse problems, and Bond just stared at them. He's not declawed or anything, but he's really not a mouser. I can't imagine he'd be able to survive this long outdoors and still look as good as he does. There's Missing Cat posters in our neighborhood and I can't imagine him straying further than that... Maybe somehow people missed the signs and were feeding him? He's obviously tame though, I would have thought if anyone had been feeding him they'd take him into the shelter too.

I don't know! Either way I'm so happy he's home and I'd love any advice on things to look for after being outside for so long.
