OH MY!  I feel like the white rabbit!  "I'm late, I'm late, I'm LATE!"  It's Time Warner's fault.  They decided to upgrade equipment last night, JUST after I had finished my question, but before I hit "submit!"  Alas, I lost it, and it was a good one, and I DON'T REMEMBER IT!!!

So, here's second best.

If you could plan a dream vacation, anything your little heart desired, for a whole summer, where would you go?

I would spend the time touring the Mediterranean countries.  I'd have local guides who spoke good English, and spend a month in Spain, a month in Italy, and a month in Greece and the Greek islands.  I would hit a few of the high spots in each country, but I would want to spend most of the time wandering the countryside, prowling small villages, just drinking in the land itself.  I would want to see Rome, and Athens and perhaps Toledo or Barcelona (or both), but the main focus would be tiny places.  I want to sit in the hills of Greece, talking the the boys watching goats, and the olive pickers in Spain and the small vintners in Italy...I want to know, just a little, what it is to live in those places.

Start in Paris and then check out the French countryside and then pay my respects to our fallen heroes at Normandy.

Head over to Italy- Tuscany, Rome and Venice

The majority of the time would be taken up but maybe a few days roaming around London and the vicinity.

I think I'd try to do tour of various parts of Europe. Start with a couple of weeks touring parts of France; Paris, Mont Saint Michele, Versailles, the Loire Valley,  Giverny (Monet's residence), Provence, etc.  2 weeks total.

We'd then head over to Ireland. There's a ton of stuff I'd love to see.  Spend 10 days, mostly in countryside areas with castles!.  Scotland is another potential but Ireland might just nudge it out.

Then, I'd head for few days in Amsterdam (dying to see the tulips blooming), I don't think we'd need even a full week so we would end it by popping over to London for the rest of the trip and do side trips from there; Bath, Stonehenge,

Last I'd kick myself that we didn't just go to Japan LOL

I'd be kicking myself about Japan too- just so I could go meet all of @Norachan  's catkids and try to figure out how I can smuggle Forest back to Florida with me so he can be Sophie's BF

LOL, right?

My fiance and I pretty much have similar desires for travel.  Japan is way up on the list; he is really interested in Japanese weaponry from the past and me, more for the gardens/architecture.  And food.  Yes. Please. The. Food.

However, all things being equal getting a good overall view of Europe would be beneficial to his intended career once he's done with school.  He's never been anywhere there and I've only been to Spain (Barcelona).  Plus, his ancestry is Ireland and/or Scotland so that could be fun to research.  We are seriously considering France for our honeymoon - if we ever can mange to figure out when to even squeeze in our elopement LOL

I would be touring the ancient ruins from Roman and Biblical times!  With a whole summer I could see even the lesser known places.  A friend just got back from Greece. Her pictures were just gorgeous!!

Maine. Up coast. Eating all the clams I could stuff into my face then bike rides and surfing or other outdoor activities...oh and buying a beatup old shack and turn into my studio and well dabble with art. and of course Honeybee and Pumps would accompany me. As long as there are logs for them to lounge on then we would be happy as a clam. And Jon would sun himself in the sun inbetween walking on the beach.

I'm sure Forest would love that, a cute little girlfriend he could snuggle with! But then you would have to do all that grooming Kat0102. Are you sure you're up to that?

I'd like to go to Hokkaido, the northern most Japanese island for the summer. I hear the scenery there is lovely, but it's way too cold for me to consider going there at any other time of year. I'd like to get a Dosanko pony, native pony from that area, and ride around the countryside, taking in the sights.

A few months touring China would be a dream, but not in summer. September and October sound like a much better time of year.

...with the cats...
much like @foxxycat, i'd bring my cats with me. i'd stay in a cabin at Blackwater Falls State Park -- http://www.blackwaterfalls.com/. the cabins there offer a cooking stove, refrigerator, running water/shower, and more. there's the falls to go see, and hiking to do there. and lots of peacefulness. plus, park people come around and put out cracked corn near (but not overly close to) the cabins -- so you can enjoy watching the deer. i'm not sure what our jaspurr, deedee, and punky would think about the deer......

Ugh, the way the Chinese treat animals it would be a living nightmare for me to visit there.
I understand how you feel, but that attitude is not too unusual in basically agrarian societies.  Animals are generally viewed by many as another crop, so to speak.  That said, there are so many historical and cultural centers there, away from the worst of it, that I would also like to spend some time there.  I'd love to tour, for instance, The Forbidden City.

Oh, that's an easy question to answer, Italy!!
My dad's patents were from there. One from Sicily, & the other from Naples. [emoji]128522[/emoji]
Italy would be my dream vacation, especially to go for a month!

Though I'm a vegetarian, I do not object to others eating meat. (My husband eats meat.) What I vehemently object to is cruelty to animals of any kind. This is what the Chinese do on a daily basis. Google China + Animal Abuse for hundreds of horror stories if you can stomach it.

I know.  Been there, done that.  Sign petitions daily, donate to groups working on animal welfare in China.  Totally different culture.  Wonderful In some ways, barbaric in others.
