We had an emaciated stray kitten take up residence under our porch, we caught her. She has no bottom lip at all. Her teeth and gumline are completly exposed and her fur doesn't start up until below her chin. The injury is healed and it doesnt seem to slow her down one bit, it did however take some getting used to looking at it. We bathed her, dewormed her, treated her for ear mites and flea treated her. She is in a large dog carrier with a litter pan, food, water, a stuffed toy and a blanket while we socialize her. She was a mess, but is recovering and will always have a unique smile.

She seems to fall over a lot..not in a drop over sense, but kind of a graceful collapse then roll. It is always her right side and she purrs over everything, even while she eats. She also seems to walk a little funny. Her front feet seem too big for her, and her ankles jut out, she also sits with her feet heels touching rather than toes straight forward.

First of all, thank you for rescuing this baby, not many people put effort into kittens who have anything as wrong with them as this one did. Second, if you haven't already a vet visit should happen as soon as you are able to, they can do scans to see if there are any broken bones that healed improperly or if there is head trauma. You have to think something probably inflicted that original wound on her and she may have underlying issues related to the event.
On a more positive note, she might just need more time to heal. Dehydration, muscle fatigue and mental strain are all side effects of a baby kitty living on their own in the wild without ample resources. In order to survive, many of the bodies organs and functions stop working.
I have rescued many of kitties on the brink of death who act "off" for a few weeks until they truly regain their strength. So best wishes and keep us updated!

We are in the process of saving back money to take her to the vet, vets here are expensive (60$ just to set her on the table) and do not accept payment plans, everything must be paid at the time of services. But, yes a vet visit is in the near future for her. I contacted our our local shelter in hopes of finding a less expensive vet, or other helpful resources, but rather than being helpful the lady on the phone blantantly told me to save myself the hassle, let her die and to adopt a healthy cat from them.. um no.

I completely understand, we live in a rural area where the "discount" spay and neuter clinic is still $60 versus $30 in other areas. You're doing the right thing by standing by her!

I wasnt exactly prepared for her to show up, but i believe everything happens for a reason and the fates that be led her to my porch for a reason. If she didnt have the will to survive, with the injury she sustained and no medical attention, she wouldnt be here. So as long as she is willing to live, im willing to help and care for her.
